“HONEY GIRL is an emotional, heartfelt, charming debut, and I loved every moment of it.”
— Jasmine Guillory, New York Times bestselling author of The Proposal
When becoming an adult means learning to love yourself first.
With her newly completed PhD in astronomy in hand, twenty-eight-year-old Grace Porter goes on a girls’ trip to Vegas to celebrate. She’s a straight A, work-through-the-summer certified high achiever. She is not the kind of person who goes to Vegas and gets drunkenly married to a woman whose name she doesn’t know…until she does exactly that.
This one moment of departure from her stern ex-military father’s plans for her life has Grace wondering why she doesn’t feel more fulfilled from completing her degree. Staggering under the weight of her parent’s expectations, a struggling job market and feelings of burnout, Grace flees her home in Portland for a summer in New York with the wife she barely knows.
In New York, she’s able to ignore all the constant questions about her future plans and falls hard for her creative and beautiful wife, Yuki Yamamoto. But when reality comes crashing in, Grace must face what she’s been running from all along—the fears that make us human, the family scars that need to heal and the longing for connection, especially when navigating the messiness of adulthood.

Review
“With imagery that leaps from the pages, HONEY GIRL is a brilliant debut. A story about finding your place in the world, about finding love—and accepting it by learning to love yourself. Prepare for this one to vault its way to the top of your TBR pile.” — Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author
“For all the sweet charm of the blossoming love between Grace and Yuki, the book is especially notable for its celebration of friendship, especially in queer communities, and for exploring the many ways relationships can be meaningful and intimate beyond romance... A strong romantic fiction debut that will appeal to readers looking for a story of true love via self-discovery.” — *STARRED REVIEW* KIRKUS REVIEWS
“Honey Girl is an absorbing read, and deftly captures the trappings of millennial life, especially for queer Black, Indigenous and people of color characters in American cities. Its expansion on what a love story can be feels restorative, especially as we cross the threshold into our second year of a pandemic during which expressing love has become more important than ever. This is the kind of non-YA coming-of-age novel the world could use more of.” — Sarah Neilson for Seattle Times
"Rogers's debut novel is a soul-stirring rom-com in reverse."—OPRAH MAGAZINE
"HONEY GIRL is an emotional, heartfelt, charming debut, and I loved every moment of it. Morgan Rogers is an incredible talent; she creates characters I couldn't stop thinking about, and who I loved immediately. I can't wait to see what she does next." — Jasmine Guillory, New York Times bestselling author of The Proposal
"HONEY GIRL is a fun, heartfelt and uncompromising look at the risks we take to find love and discover who we are. Morgan Rogers' unique and often poetic prose makes you feel found. It makes you feel seen, no matter who you are. There is a sweetness to HONEY GIRL you'll want to savor for a very long time!" — Catherine Adel West, author of Saving Ruby King
"A captivating story—readers will be rooting for Grace to come into her own." — Yaffa S. Santos, author of A Taste of Sage
“Pitch-perfect... readers will find plenty to appreciate in this rom-com.”—PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
“One of the best parts of this book is the friendships. These friends listen to, support, and love each other…For fans of Queenie and The Bride Test.”—SHELF AWARENESS
“With a cast of diverse and underrepresented characters, Rogers’s debut is a beautiful story of learning to love in so many ways: untraditionally, through deep hurt, through mental illness, and through struggles with which readers can relate. Highly recommended.”—LIBRARY JOURNAL
"It's earnest and funny and captures that time after you finish school when you have a life crisis in such a poetic and awesome way. Also, lesbian romance with an astronomy PhD?! YES PLEASE!" — Felicia Day on Instagram

The book is really good and I enjoyed it. Though in one of the page there’s this missing parts I think from a printing error so I had trouble filling in the words

This is one of the very few books published recently that is based on a queer love story and one that actually has a plot and likeable characters.

Stunning, lyrical prose. The emotions invoked were extraordinary and varied. The addresses of systemic racism, depression, mental illness as a whole, medication, self harm, love, lgbtqqip2saa, poc... I am deeply moved by this raw, real story. I can’t relate to all, but it certainly made me question myself, the systems that allows these issues to exist and the world itself.

A story of self-discovery (ish)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on July 3, 2021Verified Purchase
This was not exactly what I was expecting. From the description and things I had heard about Honey Girl I just kind of assumed it was primarily sapphic adult romance but that is not the case. While the romance is a prevalent aspect of the story it is not the main focus, instead Honey Girl focused a lot more on Grace discovering herself as an adult, what she wanted from her life and learning how to love herself.
Regardless that this wasn't what I expected I did like the characters and I still really enjoyed reading it, I think it could be a good book for you if you're of a similar age, it can be quite comforting to read about an MC with some of the same doubts and fears.

A heartwarming relatable book written really well

I gave this book a 3.5 stars I expected a little more fluffy romance than I I however I really enjoyed this book it was funny, fun, emotional.
The author deals with some really important topics and wow she does it so well. This book is a lot more than just a romance. Irs about a girl learning to be herself to discover what she wants in life and deals with mentle health.
It's wrote really well.
The only reason I gave it 3.5 stars was because I would have liked a little.more romance between Grace and Yuki

Überhöhte Erwartungen an ein gutes Buch
Reviewed in Germany 🇩🇪 on August 5, 2021Verified Purchase

Wow, just wow. I thought this would be a cute, fun read about a sapphic relationship, and don't get me wrong, it was, but it had no business making me feel the things it did and reading me so deeply.
I didn't expect all this focus on Grace finding herself and her path in life and what she wants to do "when she grows up", but it got me right in the heart, and for this reason, this novel will stay on my reread shelf for a long long time.
I like Yuki's stories a lot, they made me think a lot about my own life and my personal issues.
My only "complaint" is that I wish there was more romance, more cute easy moments with Yuki and Grace as a couple, I wished there were a few more chapters after the epilogue, like "a day in the life" or them settling in their new life.
