1.0 out of 5 stars You've got to be kidding me...
By Canadian Cat on May 23, 2020
I've been a huge fan of the motion sensor fountain w25 model that these filters go in. I've shared it countless times in numerous cat fan groups and Sufism media pages. I shared with my friends and I know at least 2 who bought the fountain as a result. My Persians, normally afraid of fountains or just willing to make a mess of them, love this fountain as do I.
However these filters have gone steadily downhill to the point that I'm taking the time to write this in hopes of improvement because if not I'll be looking for something to replace this fountain and our filter by another manufacturer.
Currently the filters are $12.99 (May 2020). This is not normal, they've been $9.99 as of 6 weeks ago and since I purchased the fountain over a yr ago.
The 30% markup is ridiculous.
The quality of the filters themselves have greatly diminished.
They don't last very long now that they're thinner - you know it's time to replace when water stops flowing through them quickly instead pooling on top of the fountain.
The filtering material inside is ridiculously low in quantity. It's entirely made up of supposedly coconut based beads but the listing and box states that it's carbon based however as you can see from attached pics you can see through the filter so I'm unsure where the carbon comes in exactly? As other carbon filters have an actual dark layer - seeing as carbon is dark material.
The box itself isn't the one shown in the listing. Mines rectangular. But I've always bought from this listing and pull up from my orders page to find when reordering.
If the cost doesn't go back to $10 for a 3 pack I'll be trying my luck and ordering a new fountain with much more cost effective filtration systems than these and a stainless steel top portion so I can remove any stains unlike this fountain, a sacrifice I was willing to live with for cost effective efficiency but not at a 30% mark up on something that needs reordering every 1-2 months (filters tend to turn to mush after 2-3 weeks max).
Really disappointed. Hoping the manufacturer does the right thing but won't be counting on it.
Will be returning my spare pump I was saving just in case now as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars New filters appear to be easily refillable!
By Poobanator on September 25, 2020
I've been using the W25 for a few years now... I love it, and the Cat loves it.

That said, I've seen the quality of the filters replacements vary like many of you. When it was time to order again, i was very concerned about all the negative comments regarding the filters... And I had a hard time knowing in many cases whether complaints were regarding the older models (cloth type) or the new type (Round Plastic puck with holes in it). Personally I already experienced a lowering of quality from initial cloth filters so i was very worried about these plastic ones. I had no choice though, I needed filters. So I placed an order for the new plastic style activated carbon filter replacements.

And at the same time I ordered a quality activated carbon product in the hopes that this filter could easily be refilled.

And guess what folks.... IT CAN! *and the crowd goes wild*. I now have 3 new filters that I will top off with extra product that can be taken apart cleaned and refilled any time I want.

all you need is a smallish Phillips head screw driver that be used to pry up the lid at the 4 locations provided (every 90 degree's around the circumference), then I just pulled one edge up with my thumb until i could stick the screw driver right under the edge, and work my way around. It takes a little practice, but it came off pretty quickly with no damage at all. Heck I didn't even spill any activated carbon.

Personnel recommendations.

The white piece of filter cloth that sits on top of the activated carbon (not below it). Which is fine, but personally I'm probably going to throw that out. As I imagine it will be the main factor in the unit clogging up quicker then it would otherwise. Alternatively, I suppose you could make your own as required out of your filter material of choice, just remember to either put a small slit in the middle Or remove the white male plastic nipple from the center of lid (That's the thing that makes makes it more difficult to come a part in the first place, so getting rid of it is probably a good idea.). You could remove both the male and female nipples if you wish, it will still fit snuggly together, and you'll be able to squeeze a little more carbon in there.

You can actually fit significantly more activated carbon in the unit in general, without significantly hampering the flow of water through the filter. Plus I imagine, the more material in the cartridge the better the cartridge will be at filtering solids/dust without the flimsy piece of filter cloth if you choose not to use it.

When filling the unit, it's easier to turn the lid upside down and fill it, and then press the bottom onto it. As the Lid has a smaller circumfrence of the two pieces. This way chunks of carbon don't get in the way when the lip snugs down into the cup.

The only important thing to consider is getting an activated carbon product that isn't to powdery or has sufficient pebble size as to not fall through the holes. I purchased an 8 ounce bottle of Marineland Black Diamond Media Premium Activated Carbon for 30 bucks. If it works, it will fill a whole bunch of cartridges. And worse case I may have to sift some of the small bits out of it. But either way, way cheaper in the long haul.

Good Luck All!

1.0 out of 5 stars Reordered and now they come with less than a quarter of the charcoal.

Reordered and the new filters have less than a quarter of the charcoal needed to filter. I opened several filters and they were all the same.

This item has decreased in quality and value since I last ordered it. I won't be ordering these again.

The filters being currently sold as of this review are no better than using a coffee filter. There is hardly any charcoal as there used to be when I previously ordered. It's a shame the manufacturer tried to go cheaper to the point the product is useless.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well they stepped up on adding more charcoal, which unfortunately rendered it useless.
Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2020
Even after seeing all the reviews on these filters being lower quality with less charcoal, I made the purchase anyways since the original filters that came with the water fountain were going bad.
I was happy to see that the filters I received were certainly of good quality much like the originals. They are thick and full of charcoal! The first filter out of the package worked great. A couple weeks later I decided to give it a rinse to get more use out of it, considering it was barely dirty (I started using purified water in the fountain) however immediately after putting it back in and turning it on, the water overflowed all over my floor since the filter wouldn't let water drain quick enough. Fair, it's past it's recommended time of use. So I tossed it and added a new one after soaking and rinsing.
Nope... still hardly lets the water drain and overflows everywhere. Quickly. It seems there is far too much charcoal inside these, not allowing the water through quick enough. Even if I set the fountain to run only when my cat is in front of the sensor, it will still rapidly fill up and overflow.
HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. My cat really likes this fountain and so do I. But now it's basically useless considering I can't use it with the filters now. So I guess I will run it without the filter until the pump plugs up with debris and quits. Then I will buy something else.
Huge waste of money on these filters only getting good use out of 1, and limited use with the fountain...
