Classic first few seasons, a bit of a letdown mid to end series.

HIMYM - overall an excellent series with lots of great memories which carry you through to the finale.
The first few seasons - 1 to 4 (more like start of season 4) were excellent. Discovering the characters, exploring their dynamic, watching Barney steal the show, lamenting with Ted, cheering for Barney and Lily, was very satisfying at the start.
Somewhere in the fourth season IMHO the laughs, the writing, started to become more 'canned', predictable, and not as fresh. It's a hard balance the longer a series progresses to match the fresh and fun feeling that hooks you in at the start.
HIMYM does a pretty good job of tying it all together with Ted's narrative, until we get to some big 'breaks' where we concentrate on the other characters. They do a good job of holding their own without the underlying narrative of Ted episodes but the magic was all about Ted. And in the end, well, you'll see. The magic came back to end the series and keep me coming back to this series for occassional binge Sundays or rainy spells.
