Described in the original as a "thorough guide to the principles of portfolio creation, cost management, stock and bond picking, and stock ownership for the defensive, long term investor" Instaread describes the author's writing style as formal. Important to remember that Benjamin Graham's part of the book was written in 1973 with "large quotations of the 1960's editions of the book" thereby using some outdated language and "terms some investors might not be familiar with". Case studies are said to be dated although "principles themselves still applicable". There is said to be plenty of jargon throughout and even Zweig's portion of the book is outdated having been written prior to the 2008 recession.

SO with all that out of the way is there any point in reading this book at all? Yes! If you are looking to do your own investing or want to know a little more then this could be quite an asset for you. HOWEVER I would highly recommend you read this Instaread summary (think DETAILED review) first before committing yourself to reading the original. With 9 Key Takeaways in this book let me give you a couple to whet your appetite:
>> #3 - "The modern stock market favors speculation over investing and includes a large population of emotional, impatient stock buyers. They tend to purchase stock when it has already risen in value above its ideal price-to-earnings ratio, and sell it when it has already fallen from its highest price."
>> #4 - "Investors with little time of interest to devote to their portfolios should invest primarily in mutual fund shares or index funds. After thorough research, investors may choose to have someone else manage their portfolios if no fund available offers the portfolio they want."
Each Key Takeaway is discussed over approximately 2 pages each.

This Instaread book will give you the gist of the original in a MUCH shorter period of time! Important to note that my review is based on the quality of this Instaread summary and NOT the original. Book provided in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks, Liz

4.0 out of 5 stars "INSTAREAD” PROVIDES A VALUABLE SERVICE"

This is an overview of the actual book “Intelligent Investor.“ Kind of like an abbreviated Cliff's Notes for the full book. It provides a potential reader enough information regarding this book’s content to determine if we want to invest the extra money and time to actually buy and read the entire book. I believe the author has done a nice job of breaking down the mysteries of modern investment into manageable chunks that we all can readily absorb and understand without holding an MBA. As an avid reader I have personally found “Instaread” to be a very helpful and valuable service.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Summary of The Intelligent Investor

I read my fair share of investment strategy books and one of my problems with these sorts of reads is that I either tear through them way too fast and don't learn much or I forget what I read pretty quickly, so don't retain enough to make use of the knowledge. I just purchased Graham & Zweig's "The Intelligent Investor" and decided to pick up this Summary to try to head of both of those things. This has been a great help to me to review the key principles as I go through the main book and also as a reference to refer back to later on. I appreciated the key takeaways chapter most of all as it succinctly summarized the material for me. Recommended. (This is an unbiased book review and the opinions given here are 100% my own.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Outline

I enjoyed the way the points of investing were outlined and then explained. Feels like Cliff Notes but not really.
I'm new to traditional investments in the Stock market. I've been accustomed to tangible investments like flipping cars on Craigslist, furniture, Security services, etc.
The speculative trading I've participated in were like Tradewinds in Aruba and some other high risk high profit companies that went Bust eventually. That being said, I hope this review helps someone.

1.0 out of 5 stars garbage ripoff you can read it in 2 minutes

garbage ripoff you can read it in 2 minutes, is a summary a high school junior could do, cramming an wonderful book into a few trivial and often incorrect takeaways. avoid this book, save your money and get the real thing. this would be a 10 page leaflet and the other reviews on here are likely fake/planted. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. the intelligent investor would NOT waste money on this, but get real value from the real thing.

Accidentally, I bought summary of intelligent investor instead of the complete book intelligent investor. It has only about 27 pages. Cost should be 20 rupees. But, they are charging extraordinary amount Rs.309. It is not worth for Rs.309. Cover is designed in such a way that it looks like tha actual book of intelligent investor. Bought it accidentally.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent short book report

A good synopsis, but it is difficult to condense the entirety of Graham's Intelligent Investor into 35 pages. I'll use it as a refresher and guide on my next perusal.
