This book covers everything you need to know in order to get started with valuation and the M&A process. If you are someone who has no idea how M&A works or what it is, this book will have you covered in every aspect. It is very detailed and comprehensive, and thus takes time to absorb, but it has 2 semester's worth of information in it which makes it all the more valuable. Also, there are links to the Excel sheets used to perform the analyses mentioned in the book. Excel is heavily used in this industry and knowing how to actually perform the functions is a valuable skill to have.

The content is solid, but...

Content is good as well explained by many of the positive reviews, however: I've encountered the same issue as another customer, though the book has good content in learning valuation methods, it falsely claims to give you access to financial models - which is what justifies the price I originally paid 2 years ago. I understand they are now selling the models separately and making good money on it. However, I don't think it's right that this book falsely claims to give you access. I could understand if the book was 20 years old, but c'mon I couldn't access the models just 4 years after the publishing date. I feel cheated by these guys.

I'm not going to repeat what has already been stated in the other 70 plus (and growing) reviews here. There is a reason this book is hot - there is nothing else like it (that I know of) on investment banking. I'm a fan of business literature and have read several on and around the topic of investment banking. But each were either too basic or too theoretical to be of much practical use. Not this volume; it nails the subject. It you are looking for a practical "how to" guide to business valuation as it relates to investment banking, you've found it.

I've been in the M&A industry for many years and wished that I had read this book right up-front. The title is "Investment Banking" but it could easily be called "How to Understand Investment Banking Well Enough to Work in M&A." The authors laid out the basic valuation principles in a straightforward, logical manner. A great book to have if you are interested in buying businesses, selling businesses, understanding what your business is worth and how the world of Investment Banking views your business. It took me years of experience to nail down what this book gets across in less than 300 pages.

I'm in the process of reading but have loved and understood completely what the authors are saying. Written in a language understood by a young banker is a bonus. Nevertheless, people experienced in the field can also gain useful insight into the corporate finance field.
