It's about 5 inches wide or so, which means you'll want to install near the middle. It comes with strong, plastic risers that let you control the height. Those work well.
I do have two issues. I don't think this should warn people off -- it's a good product. But you might want to know this before you install.
They tried to do decent instructions, but I don't believe they tried very well. I ended up goofing on one of my windows, and when I removed the A/C for the winter and tried to shut the window, I realized I mounted it too closely to the closed window, and it interferes. The directions try to warn you about this, but they do so in a confusing fashion.
So, word to the forewarned: mount this far enough on the sill that you can close your window when you remove the A/C for the season.
The second thing I don't like: The support angle part, the thing that bends down at a 45-degree angle to provide support at the end -- it doesn't actually attach to the house. It has a rubber end, and you can sort of screw it down at the attachment point so it stays, but it stays where it is by friction, not because it's attached.
Okay, I get it. They didn't want to screw holes into the outside of the house. That's probably for the better. But I am really worried (it hasn't happened yet) that it won't remain at the 45, and the shelf will dip. I believe the unit would be better served if there was a way to ensure the 45-part absolutely remained at 45 degrees and couldn't fall open, letting the shelf fall open and your A/C unit fall to the ground.
Like I said -- it hasn't happened, and maybe I'm worried about nothing. Please be careful when you do your install.

My windows are new and they’re aluminum, the sill on the outside is concrete/brick. The paper instructions are little hard to follow but there is a YouTube video from the manufacturer, so I watched that several times and attempted to install with the help of a friend. We drilled per the instructions but once we got the bracket on, there were some problems:
1. The supporting leg that fits between the bracket and the building facade was loose and we couldn’t get good tension on the leg, even after adding some of the AC weight on it.
2. The 3 screws that fit in the plastic blocks were not snug, even with the anchors in the concrete sill. They would jiggle and after a while during the installation, they just lifted out of the sill when slight pressure was adding to the bracket. This was a little alarming...
3. Due to the height of the bottom of my window and the sill with the bracket mount, there was still a 1 3/4” gap so I tried to fill it with a piece of wood but again, due to the height of the unit and fear of something getting loose and dropping 6 floors, I decided to scrap the whole project.
In short, my AC isn’t up and this purchase was a bust.

In my case, either an inch shorter or longer would have worked, but going up or down one hole in the support made the angle of the A/C unit too extreme.
Edit: in case it isn't clear from my pic, since there is no way to reach a flat surface, the rotating foot turns under the edge of the siding when you put any weight on it.
