Nate Sheperd, der Anwalt, der eigentlich nur kleine Fälle bearbeiten möchte und doch immer wieder mit Mord zu tun hat, bekommt einen Hit & Run mit Todesfolge angedient.
Hat der äußerst engagierte Leiter einer Hilfsorganisation wirklich absichtlich einen Menschen überfahren, um mit dem der Organisation versprochenen Erbe des Toten diese noch hilfreicher machen zu können?
Ausgerechnet Ed, der sein ganzes Leben der Hilfe Schwächerer widmet und dem alles unterordnet. Oder ist Ed sogar bereit, für sein Bestreben, vielen helfen zu können, einen Menschen zu töten und sein eigenes Leben hinter Gittern zu verbringen?
Zumal das Erbe lediglich aus einigen "Wallets", also Geldbörsen besteht. Eine dieser Wallets ist jedoch eine "cold wallet" - Bitcoins.
Die ganze Story ist spannend geschrieben und man erfährt nebenbei so einiges über Kryptowährung und interessante kleine Gesetze im US-Erbrecht.
Nate Sheperd ist wie immer einer der sympathischsten Anwälte überhaupt mit einer ebenso sympathischen Familie.
Und da gibt es einen halben Stern Abzug: diese Familie ist einerseits wirklich cool - andererseits eben so fehlerfrei, dass es leider so typisch amerikanisch aufpoliert wirkt. Alle haben sich immer lieb, es gibt ständig ganz tolle, lustige Familienessen, nie ist jemand genervt und alle tun immer das Richtige. Das sind alles Aliens ;-)
Und den anderen halben Stern Abzug gibt es für den Gut-Menschen Ed: der ist so edel & gut, dass es manchmal etwas nervt bzw. oberflächlich wirkt.
Aber dennoch freue ich mich schon jetzt auf den nächsten Fall von Nate Shepard.
Die Reihe ist jedem zu empfehlen, der gerne etwas mit Gerichtsverhandlungen und deren Vorbereitung liest und dabei einen familiären Touch mag.
