Product description

From the Inside Flap

PRAISE FOR KILLER VISUAL STRATEGIES

"Grounded in Amy's experience and hard work which led to her rocket- like rise as a visual strategist, this gem of a book is packed with actionable information and sets its audience up for informed success in the world of visual communication. It's a tremendous asset on its own, or a perfect complement to Amy's courses on LinkedIn Learning!"
—Susan Varnum, senior producer, LinkedIn Learning

"You've heard the rule: 'show it, don't say it'? That's harder than it sounds, but this book provides the how-to knowledge you need."
—David Blatner, founder, CreativePro Network

"Killer. That's the best description of the work of Amy Balliett and her visual strategy team. Her book delivers on that promise with the same eye-opening candor and clarity as her work. The experienced creative professional will find it as useful and informative as a newbie. I sure did."
—Ted Leonhardt, author, Nail It!: Stories for Designers on Negotiating with Confidence

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Resource for Visual Communication Design I've Read Thus Far!!
Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2020
I took the risk of preordering multiple copies of this book before any reviews came out, simply based on the reputation of the author. I had taken some of her LinkedIn Learning courses and figured that a book like this could be a great resource for myself and my marketing team. I was right!

This book encompasses everything in Amy's classes and more. What I love the most is Part 2 of the book, which takes up 50% at least. It covers 8 rules of visual communication design that make you look at creative content with an entirely different lens. It's written such that you can read just the opening section of each chapter to learn everything you need, or you can read the opening and then follow the exercises in each chapter to put your learning into action.

I think this is a must-have book for any business (and their employees) looking to up their content marketing and communications game. It's a great resource for designers too, but as a non-designer I found it equally compelling and empowering.

5.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive guide to visual communication marketing and design
Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2020
Whether you're a marketer, a communications professional, or a designer, this book has something to offer for everyone. Not only does it outline the history of visual communication from cave paintings onwards, it explains the science of how our brains interact with visual content, and why it's so much more powerful than text.

The second part of the book dives into the 8 rules of visual communication, which include a tutorial on how to properly visualize data and insights on everything from fonts to color choices. Each chapter in this section includes an exercise so you can practice and apply what you've learned.

Finally, the book outlines practice project management approaches and even typical pricing for different types of creative projects. It really covers every base when it comes to helping readers gain a fuller understanding of visual communication, and walk away with actionable strategies they can start applying right away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Level up your visual engagement

I am currently working on a conservation project that relies heavily on a visual campaign to convey some complicated information. Recently, I have come to recognize the importance of visual strategies to meaningfully engage my target audience. I have found this book really helpful giving me some solid tips and reminders that I can reference my current & future work, such as considering cultural content, then keeping a consistent illustration style for the entire campaign. I highly recommend this resource for anyone who might similarly benefit from a straightforward guide to best practices of visual communication!
