4.0 out of 5 starsButton mapping is a mess and can be distracting
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on June 24, 2022
Update: Original 2 stars. I contacted support and spoke to them. They were very helpful and sent me some info on how to update the firmware and say they will send me a video on pairing with the old version as apperently it is a different process from the manual.
The new button layout is still very annoying but I can get used to it with time.

I had the old model (Last generation). I had it for 3 years an never had a single issue with it, The button mapping was good and worked well. Never had connection issues and it just worked. It finally died after some hard rain, I decided to buy a new one, I almost wish I didn't. The amount of issues I have with it are almost unbelievable. They ruined a good thing.
Before each button had a purpose, One click did something and holding the button did another, It was dead simple.
The new one has been completely remapped and it doesn't work well, To power on and off you need to hold 2 buttons at the exact same nanosecond or else it wont work or decides to go into pairing mode rather than power off. I have to hit the buttons 2-3 times to get it right. The double click up for next song is great until it stops working randomly after 2 hours. The rear button changes modes when you hold it, well sometimes. Sometimes nothing happens, sometimes it makes strange beeping noises and nothing happens. The buttons are a mess. They used to work so well on the old unit and now are terrible. When I am riding a motorcycle I should not have to think about anything but the road. I have to focus on this thing to use it now.
This is not to mention the absolute worst problem, When you change modes or switch to intercom with a friend, The volume turns up to 100% and nearly deafens you. It scares the crap out of you while you are riding a motorcycle. That is dangerous.

When you pair with more than 3 riders it starts echoing and has static. 2 riders is fine but any more and it doesn't work. I have tried repairing as the manual says 4-5 times and it does it every time. There are numerous other small bugs with these units. I know someone else with one and they have the same issues. I also see some revies on amazon with the same complaints. They took a good thing and made the hardware better and ruined the interface. I really liked the old one and was hoping this would be an upgrade. It was not and now my old one doesn't work and I have no choice but to upgrade to another brand as the old model isn't sold anymore.
" If its not broken, Don't fix it "
The button mapping is the most baffling thing as it was fine before and now they made it way too complicated for no reason.

There are good things about it
It is much more clear than the old one and has better battery life, The USB C is also great. The speakers are better, The mounting is better. It has the potential to me much better but the missed the mark by a lot.

I'm am very disappointed that I may have to go to another brand now as all my friends have the older models of this and I wanted to stick with them as they have been great in the past.

3.0 out of 5 starsUnfortunate sound quality issues - returned unit
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on September 18, 2020
This unit is quite promising but the speakers are so incredibly weak that it really can't be used for music or FM Radio.

I spent hours ensuring that the speakers were properly positioned in my helmet to ensure the best possible sound quality and yet there was just no point in listening to music. I could hear lyrics but the sound was missing all the low tones and most of the mid-tones. Often I couldn't even identify the song being played. Note: I did test the speakers out of the helmet to 100% ensure that they were centered on my ears. I also did ensure that the plug was *fully* plugged into the unit. Nothing helped -- the speakers were simply no good.

For the FM Radio, it was disappointing that the Lexin didn't remember the last station -- it meant having to scan through stations each and every time that I used FM to find my station.

Upon power-on, power-off, initiating FM Radio, etc. there are voice prompts. They are so loud that I actually had to take my helmet off when changing modes. NOTE: There is a firmware upgrade on the Lexin site that addresses this (it also changes the female voice to a male voice - weird - and is not well documented).

As with many products like this, the documentation is extremely poor and difficult to follow. It's hard to understand why a company would spend so much engineering time on a product and then make crappy documentation almost as an after thought.

On the positive side: I was able to pair with a fellow rider who was using a Cardo system. He was able to initiate a conversation but nothing I could do on the Lexin could initiate a conversation. Consequently, we had to keep the intercom open for the entire time we were riding.

The intercom worked well as did the noise cancellation.
In the end, I returned this unit. I don't understand why Lexin would cheap out on the speakers. There are so many quality small speakers out there you think they could have sourced a better option to use on this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blown away!!
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on August 23, 2021
Style: B4 Dual PackColour Name: Blue 2Verified Purchase
Used with a Bell Qualifier DLX and HJC i10 helmet.

Quick recap, I originally picked up a VNETPHONE V6 Pro set about 2 weeks before based on a family member's recommendation. He is using one and likes it, so I ordered one in (dual set) because my wife and I had planned a 450km motorcycle trips planned out. In short, we had a hard time pairing the VNET V6 units, we had to reinitiate the units after each shut-off, unlike my cousin's unit. So we just kept them turned on all the time. During most of the trip, we always had a hard time understanding each other. Lots of noise/static, poor audio and the moment we got to far apart... signal was toast! Not a bad unit but not the one for me. A good friend suggested the Lexin B4FM units and he is using them in out in the woods on his 4x4's. I ordered up a set because I was already returning the VNET's and I can always trust his opinion on any gear that we are both into.

A worthy quick mention, Lexin as two versions of the B4FM units being sold. Easy enough to tell them apart. Both have different communication buttons. One version has a "helmet" type button and the other a "X" button. We got the "X" version. Also, both have different mounting systems and pairing methods. Would be nice to have the same units shipped out or at least, have them use the same mounting clips and pairing info.

Packaging:
When the Lexin units arrived, I was immediately impressed by the packaging alone. There was more detailed information on the box and on the inside, the instructions manual was nice and clear and the inner packing was awesome! Each piece and component had its own ziplock bag, not all tossed into one bag and here ya go! The little things usually give a good idea of what to expect.

Installation:
It was simple but had me slightly worried. Most videos we watched online for the B4FM is not the same as my units, as mentioned above about the two models. The online videos show a big paper clip type of system for the install versus mine was a 2pcs metal/plastic clip you tighten up together between the shell. It comes with an additional 3M rubber sticker and would strongly suggest adding that extra rubber over the one on the metal clip to ensure a tighter fit. If you don't, our bracket could come off easily... this might be my only complaint on these. So all depending on what unit you receive might be a little bit confusing.

B4FM unit:
If you follow the instructions, easy to use. Because of the two versions going around, you can't base yourself on the Youtube clips and wrap it up... unless of course, you received the same version. But using the units, pairing your phone (Samsung Android) was a breeze, using the FM radio was simple and pretty good reception. The option of being to save up to 6 channels is a nice touch! The B4FM unit connects up to 4 users at once, I haven't tested that. But pairing up our two units was easy enough and ALWAYS had a steady connection...

Audio Quality:
Being an audiophile myself I like good sound. But having something this small at this price point, I can't complain. Yes, the sound is a little thin and high on mids the treble, it could use a little more bass to beef up the tone (bigger speakers) but you can always adjust your cell phone EQ's audio to help out. I did and went with 2 custom settings and it was a good improvement. I also tried it out with different types of music and artists (Al Green, ZZ Top, Monster Truck, Black Label Society, CCR, Slayer, Sade and a few others) and adjusted the EQ and rolling up the bass helps. See pics that worked well for me in my setup.

Intercom:
I was really, really impressed. Cruising at lower speeds 40kmh to 60kmh audio communication was clear . Going from 65kmh to 110kmh, even with our visors open we had no issues hearing one another... unlike the other unit I mentioned. The noise cancellation system in these really seems to work well. No complaints whatsoever on this aspect. We intentionally split up to increase the distance between us to test Its reach/limit... and if I had to guess, we reach approximately a 1.2km apart (1200 meters) we still talked and understood each other fine. Pushed beyond that and we encountered static... my wife said I cut in and out at that distance. We might have been at 1.6km (1600 meters) as claimed by Lexin but I can't be sure... riding at 100kmh we gaged the distance. So IMO, that is incredible! In a normal situation, we would never be that far apart anyway... so the B4FM passed that test with flying colors!

Battery life:
Impressed to say the least. We had our units turned on for 9.5hrs straight... didn't turn them off once. I got home last night after our ride and kept playing around with the unit. Pairing up my phone, listening to music, testing out the GPS on the phone with the unit and this morning the batt level is still at 100%!!

Manual:
Read it carefully, don't skip certain procedures and you won't have an issue... its very a simple KISS manual.

Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend the Lexin B4FM to ANYONE on a budget looking for a great unit. It obviously isn't one of those other higher-priced brands that are over $300 + for a single intercom unit. The B4FM doesn't have the same technology and doesn't have the same cool "MESHY" features and the other jazz... but at $207 CDN for a two headset kit, this little unit holds its own and does it oh so well!

In fact, If I had the extra money, I would love to try out ALL of Lexin's products... I am very impressed to say the least.

Safe riding everyone!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Game changer!
Reviewed in Canada 🇨🇦 on March 12, 2023

I initially bought the Vnetphone version of these for hubby and I for our skidoo rides, but we couldn’t hear anything the moment we started driving, so I returned them. When the Lexin ones arrived, I first tested them with my daughter and had low expectations because I found the sound not very loud, but hubby and I decided to test them out anyway, on our first 5 hour skidoo trip. As soon as we took off from our house, I knew these ones were a game changer. I could hear him clearly and was able to talk to him without issue for the entire 5 hour ride. It was so handy for warning each other when obstacles or other oncoming sleds were approaching. We were quite far apart from one another too at times, and never once did we lose connection. Hubby figured I should charge them when we arrived to our hotel, but nope! After 5 hours of non stop use, they still had 100% battery charge!!! So far, I’m very happy and very impressed. My only issue is getting the receiver onto the helmet. I tried repeatedly sliding it onto the clip, and it started damaging the treads on back of it. I finally had to put the receiver on before attaching the clip to the helmet and I’m going to have to leave them attached to the helmet because I fear damaging the back of the receiver further. This was my only issue though! Very happy with this product. We drive 5 hours back today, so hoping for equally good results with this Bluetooth system!

Personally I love this little thing. I did buy the two pack and have only installed one on my own helmet and have yet to pair it with anything else and try that feature out. I have however taken a bunch of phone calls while on the bike and the people on the phone with me say my sound quality is great. I ride an entirely too loud sportster with straight shot no baffle pipes and the person on the phone can hardly tell I'm on a bike, so thats pretty amazing.
the battery seems to last forever. I fully charged the battery before installation, and its been at 100% for weeks. I have a 20 min commute each way 5 days a week and listen to music the whole time, so thats pretty impressive so far.
My ONLY complaint is the sound quality of the speakers when listening to music. the bass from the speakers is nonexistent. The mid and high range is good, but there is no low end to them. Thats where the price makes sense. My pixel buds have twice the sound quality in the bottom end and they aren't fantastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works As Advertized

Straightforward installing in our helmets. Some of the instructions could have been better written and clear. Speaker sound quality isn't the best, lots of volume but very tinny sounding. All in all we are satisfied with this product.

We use these to communicate between three snowmobiles. They work very well. My only gripe is that the instructions for pairing three or more units is a bit hard to follow but that is probably more on me than the manufacturer. You just have to read the instructions more carefully than I did. I would definitely recommend these.

4.0 out of 5 stars Used it for one day.

I originally received this as a Christmas gift, used it for one day and immediately bought one for my wife.
We used them in tandem on a snowmobile ride and at the end of the ride bought 2 more for our kids that ride 2 up with us.
We don't have extensive use yet so can't really speak to that but initially they are great.
I ride with an mx style helmet and the included clamp worked perfect for mine, my wife rides with a conventional modular snow helmet and the skirting around the neck doesn't work with the clamp. First ride out the supplied 3M tape bracket let go on hers (Instructions say this may happen).
so far that is the only downside. that is the only reason for 4 star versus 5 so far.
I also wish it was easier to find replacement speaker/mics so I could set this up on more than one of my helmets. I emailed the company but have not heard back yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent customer service, but speakers may not fit some helmets

Update:
Lexin reached out to me and offered a replacement helmet clip that would fit my helmet correctly. They also offered different speakers, but as I have already replaced this unit, I did not accept. They did graciously offer a partial refund which I did accept. They are definitely trying to do their best by the customer, and I appreciate that.
If you are wondering whether or not these speakers will fit your helmet, the pad is roughly 5cm on diameter. The entire pad doesn't need to fit in the speaker cut out in your helmet (4cm seems to be common for speaker cut outs), but you should confirm that there aren't snaps or straps that will prevent you from putting a 5cm circular pad under your helmet lining, centered over the speaker cut out.
I'd love to see Lexin and othet comm units show pictures of the included speakers, along with measurements, in the product photos. Of course, that also implies that I would have been smart enough enough to take out my helmet liner and measure...

Original review: I could not install these in my helmet (scorpion at950) because of the style of speaker they use. Like many other inexpensive comm units these use a speaker driver surround by a velcro pad to place them. In contrast, name brands like Cardo use a speaker unit with the velcro directly behind the speaker not around it. The difference is that a name brand speaker fits inside the 40mm cut outs of most helmets. The lexin (and my v6 before it) go up and around the cutout. On my old helmet (ls2 metro) there was enough space to make that work (although the speaker does not sit flush inside the speaker hole). With my new helmet the liner snaps are too close to the hole and there is no way to fit the speaker without cutting away a good portion of the protective padding and velcro.
Also, the included helmet clip is too thick and cannot clamp the helmet. The instruction manuals look like they have fixed this in newer versions. They do provide a 3m adhesive base you can use if the clamp won't work (kudos for that) but then say they don't recommend using it without saying why (I've seen mounts using similar adhesive say it isn't rated for speeds above 120km/h, but without the clarification I'm left to decide whether or not to use the adhesive mount without knowing in what situations it might fail).
I like the feature list, and I've been reasonably happy with similar Bluetooth comms in the past (v6). I just wish they would use the more compact integrated speaker units like Cardo.
I'd like to say it's cheap enough that maybe the risk the speakers won't fit your helmet is worth it, but Cardo released the spirit, which offers similar features (minus the group chat) for less money.

For the price they are hard to beat. More expensive ones have better features and may be more user friendly but cost 3x as much. These work great for us out snowmobiling
