Brilliant original sci-fi undone by inconsistent narrative at the end

This book was so close to being perfect. With just a little more conventionality at the end, it would have been easily been 5 stars.

There are lots of good things about this novel. The characters are interesting (although they do remind me a lot of the main characters in the author's first novel, Les Sxpiliens) and the world created by the author is both original and interesting, with lots of surprises rising throughout the stories.

The action in the story is well done. It is made even more compelling by the fact that it is a fight between two vastly different civilisations who have their own technology, advantages and disadvantages.

The book is really good for the first three quarters. But unfortunately, the author seems to change narrative tone towards the end. The novel of exciting action and intrigue suddenly descends into a philosophical discussion which is neither interesting nor really adds anything to the story. In some ways, it reminds me of the Mass Effect game trilogy where a good story in spoiled by a poor ending.

If this story had a more straight forward and conventional ending, even if unoriginal, that was consistent with the first three quarters, I probably would have given it 5 stars.

The novel also leaves some unanswered questions (Where do the Ploutons come from? How and when did the Centaurians encounter humans?) and even the sequel (Un Monde Melleur) fails to answer these adequately.

As an non-francophone, I found the book flowed well and was easy to follow. So any with a decent level if French should find it accessible.

In summary, thus is a very interesting story that deserves to be read. Be prepared for the change in tone towards the end. I didn't like the change, but others may have a different view.

L’idee de depart est plutôt bonne et retient l’attention. La narration est pourtant bien poussive. La première partie est plutôt bien et l’intrigue est assez bien menée. La deuxième partie traîne en longueur, la SF fait place à l’initiation agricole ( traite des vaches, travaux des champs...) au cas où le livre serait lu par des extra terrestre j’imagine. La troisième partie est vite enlevée, elle est assez intéressante et l’auteur s’efforce de trouver une explication “logique” aux événements. Malheureusement cette partie se termine bien vite et les révélations ne sont pas exploitées. En conclusion, le livre semble très hétérogène et, s’il se lit facilement, il manque de souffle. Un peu déçu.

Un livre atypique, avec des personnages attachants. Je l' ai lu en premier, et je suis devenue fan. La première partie surtout, qui se passe à Antea, décrit la ville, sa prise de conscience d' une attaque, sa réaction , l' importance donnée là aux nettoyeurs , ( une idée de génie ), bref ce côté David contre Goliath est plus que réussie . Je voudrais bien que l' auteur creuse autour de cette idée de nettoyeurs, une trouvaille formidable, qu' on retrouve dans d autres livres comme " Esperenza 64 ", mais pas assez. Il y a là une idée phare, à exloiter. Pourquoi pas un livre " pré attaque ", où l' action se situerait sous terre, avec peut être d' autres villes, et surtout une exploration du thème et de la vie des nettoyeurs. Lum est formidable, on n' en sait pas assez sur lui, sa vie. En fait, je retournerais bien à Anthea

J'ai adoré ce livre tant au niveau de l'histoire que dans le manière de la raconter. Quelques fautes d'ortographe comme pour Elisabeth qui après avoir vendu son appartement de Paris allait, pensait-elle, se retrouver pauvre comme zob !! Mais pour le reste, quelle fraîcheur de ton et aussi quel rythme. J'ai bien aimé aussi les remarques philosophiques de l'auteur. Bref ce livre m'a passionné et je ne l'ai pas lâché avant de l'avoir fini!

D'innombrables fautes d'orthographes et fautes de frappes sur la version Kindle. Tellement que vers la fin, je me demande s'il n'y en avait pas 1 par page. Tellement que par moment il faut relire sa phrase car le sens s'en trouve changé ("entrée" au lieu de "entrer", ...). Bref, une relecture vraisemblablement faite par nos amis étrangers qui ont dû faire leur possible au vu de la difficulté de la langue française. Je ne suis attaché à un orthographe irréprochable, mais dans un livre et autant que ca, je trouve ca inacceptable et nous rappelle qu'un bouquin Kindle reste, au même titre que les autres produits matériels, un produit vendable tant qu'il est potable, inutile de le rendre correct s'il se vend ainsi. C'est ce qu'est devenu le commerce par Internet. Je ne parle évidemment pas de la qualité de l'histoire que je ne noterai pas ici, en m'excusant auprès de l'auteur qui n'y est pour rien (ces fautes n'étant, je suppose, pas sur la version papier).
