Absolutely no research was done into Laos, Cambodia, North Thailand, or vietnam beyond that disclaimer. We've traveled from Bangkok up to Vientiane by road and the bus lines provided in lonely planet are all wrong and at least 50% of the restaurants, hotels, are permanently closed. This book was a waste of time and money.
That's our final straw with lonely planet. The books haven't been properly updated in decades it feels like and besides a very rough outline on attractions, which can be found on rough guide online free of charge, there is little to no benefits to lonely planet. Lonely planet has really fallen behind in the days of blogs and reddit and is no longer a reliable source of information for traveling.
I should have just stuck with my ten years old copy of this book instead of buying the new updated one and wasting money.
