Martha Doesn't Say Sorry is a WONDERFUL and heart-warming book. It is a must-read before bedtime in our home. Martha is such a love-able character...and as a parent, I love the lessons that she teaches us in an honest, true-to-life way.
The illustrations are beautiful and the writing is outstanding. I have been a fan of Samantha Berger for many years now and I am delighted to meet Martha. Any plans for more Martha? Are there other lessons that she can teach us? Can't wait to see what Martha does next!! I highly recommend this for any book collection--it is a must have!!

Adorably clad in her pink dress and matching headband, Martha is ready to do just about anything - except say those three little words: I am sorry. But when this sweet but stubborn otter learns that niceties like cookies, piggyback rides, and hugs are for people who apologize our mischievous heroine learns the ultimately rewarding feeling that comes with saying she's sorry.
Parents and kids alike will embrace the hilarious watercolor illustrations and the irreverent humor throughout in this pitch-perfect picture book that offers the gentlest of lessons.

I had recently been lamenting the lack of great books for young kids, when a fellow parent recommended 'Martha Doesn't Say Sorry'. My kids and I were hooked upon the first reading. The story is charming without being too saccharine and the character of Martha is down-to-earth, accessible and relevant, while remaining highly imaginative.
My family has become instant fans of Martha can't wait to read "Martha Doesn't Share". We hope there are more on the way! Many thanks to Samantha Berger for adding new life to our nightly 'story time' routine.

What a help. This book -storyline and pictures- help convey the basic concepts of an "I'm sorry" as a means to mend inconsiderate behavior and unkindness towards others. The real benefit underlying the message is that Martha is not portrayed as a one dimensional character summed up by her naughty behavior and resistence to apologize. The book mentions frequently with words and pictures there are many things Martha does well, but like everyone else, things she could do better. I find children, when faced with an infraction on their part, especially one that has wounded another person, resist apologies because they seem to interpret "I'm sorry" as agreement they have done something unacceptable; something hard for some egos to accept at any age. Martha learns that an apology is not personal condemnation but recognition that someone was infringed upon. Hopefully, as Martha gets older she learns the second, sometimes unspoken part of an apology reflected in the promise not to offend in the same way again.

my son just didn't respond well to this one. didn't like the little girl, didn't like her attitude, and it didn't seem to change his attitude about saying sorry much... but it might also be the set up- in the book, the girl does a bunch of thoughtless and hurtful things, and doesn't say sorry. in my son's case, he does things accidentally, but whether you step on someone's foot accidentally or not, you still have to learn to say sorry. in his case, if he does something on purpose that he knows is wrong, he'll apologize, but he doesn't like to apologize when it was just an accident. so I've gotta find a book that meets this target circumstance... advice?

I love Martha!!!

I bought this book because I loved the color of the cover. Drawn in beautiful pastels, with lovely illustrations, it's the story of a mole family featuring an imp called Martha. She likes to play, has a warm and loving relationship with her mother, father and brother, but is stubborn when it comes to saying sorry. What follows is a gentle lesson in coaxing an apology from a mulish youngster. When Martha realizes that nobody will play with her, she finally learns the benefit of proper manners. Love this mole! The book is not preachy, and the end is adorable.

BRING ON MORE MARTHA

Back before the internet, we had Little Golden Books' The Saggy Baggy Elephant, and the Poky Little Puppy; but now the hive mind of pop culture has identified a brand new children's book superstar! Martha the Otter!
I read Martha to my niece, and I can tell you it was a delight from beginning to end! The artwork is funny; and the tale of Martha the Otter is in a class by itself. Clever, endearing, and deceptively educational...Martha Doesn't Share is charming from cover to cover. This is sure to be a beloved memory for your child in the same way that your favorite childrens book was for you. Pick this one up, you WILL NOT regret it!
