A prequel to the scorching paranormal romance, The Boss, coming September 24th.
Maddie Thompson’s life just fell down a rabbit hole. Finding out she's a dragon shifter was one thing—she never quite fit into the human world, and this new reality feels…strangely right. However, discovering the next step is to choose a mate, and if she chooses wrong she'll die, is the other side of crazy. Especially when she already left a piece of her heart with someone who didn't want it.
To say dragon enforcer Fallon Conleth was shocked when the Mating Council summoned him as a potential mate for a newly found dragon doesn’t quite cover it. A mate is rare and precious and many dragons never find theirs. Fallon isn’t sure he’s worthy of the honor, not when so many deserve it more. He’ll just go through the motions and return home alone…until he sees Maddie. The human woman he reluctantly let walk away.
Fallon already broke Maddie's heart once, but if he can't convince her that they're meant to be, she'll die... and he won't be far behind.

About the author

Abigail attempted to find a practical career related to her favorite pastime by earning a degree in English Rhetoric (Technical Writing) and an MBA. However, she swiftly discovered that writing without imagination is not nearly as fun as writing with it.

All you have to do is choose “the one” from a group of dragons the Mating Council presents to you. Dragons chosen by them who come from all over the world just for the chance to meet (and mate) you. All of whom are complete strangers to you, except the dragon who "discovered" you and brought you to the attention of the Council, who is included in the group. You’re supposed to spend a few days getting to know each of the new men and then choose one to spend the rest of your life with. Except one of the men presented isn’t a stranger. He’s the man you met a few months ago; the one you felt an instant connection with. The one you’ve been thinking about ever since. The one who walked away from you – because he thought you were human – but now says all the right things. That he hasn’t stopped thinking about you either. That if he knew you were a dragon mate he would never have let you go. Can Maddie believe Fallon when he says to trust their connection?
This prequel was a really good introduction to the world Abagail Owen created for her Fire’s Edge series. It gave you a glimpse into the life Fallon was living when he met Maddie and we were introduced to his brother Finn, who happens to be the hero of the next book. We’re also pulled in by the conflicts happening around Fallon & Maddie and the ramifications extend into the rest of the books in this series and further!
Not only the romance holds readers hostage with suspense but another dragon wants Maddie for his own and there is political unrest in the dragon world that could endanger Maddie and Fallon as well. The thrilling fast paced plot keeps readers glued to the pages as they introduced to a fascinating, energetic new world of dragon shifters with some unique elements that make these dragons quite a bit different from others. So while the story may be short, it packs quite a punch and has gotten me very excited about this new series so now I am off to read the first book right now.

Maddie and Fallon have history and I would have loved to have read more of their story before the mating. There's action and chaos with their story and I didn't expect that to happen with it being a novella which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm dying to read the rest of the series to see what else can happen in this world and gain more of an explanation on the heritage of the different Dragon clans.

This is a shorter and quicker story than that of big brother Finn and The Boss. But then, this is a prequel novella, so it's to be expected. Fortunately, despite being a quick read, this is still a little book worth giving a go.
I liked the chemistry between Maddie and Fallon. Clearly, they already had a history and I think that this helped to move the story along. Too many shortly books are ruined or don't quite work because the main characters are into each other too quickly. By having a couple that has already had chemistry but has kept apart from one another as they didn't really understand what the other was, it made this book work well.
The Mate helps set up what I assume will become a longer series. I was already keen to read the next book, but now having read book 1 and book 0.5 (albeit not in the right order) then I'm chomping at the bit for the next one. Just as a note on that, I don't think it matters that I read The Boss first, so if you've already read that one, it's definitely worth going back and giving The Mate a read.

Fallon is a dragon shifter and summoned to meet his fated mate, along with three others.
Maddie is a human and apparently shows signs of being a mate to a dragon.
Having met before , shared a kiss but still parted, she doesn't believe they're fated. And quite frankly neither did i!
It's a short book, too short to learn the character traits, and the story felt rushed not bad for what it was and found it free.

Well this had me intrigued at dragons and then to just up the ante we get fire fighters too ! Although I admit we don't actually see Fallon doing his fireman duties we are aware of them as the heroine Maddie met him when she worked as a fire investigator. So straight away there's a history between them but as Maddie is newly discovered as a potential dragon Mate poor Fallon has a lot of stiff competition. Plus there's an undercurrent of unrest within the dragon nation that puts the couple in danger .
I really liked this and thoroughly enjoyed the authors writing style. If you've ever seen the dating show on tv when one man/woman has to choose from a variety of potential matches then you will enjoy the set up here. I particularly liked that we got to know what both Fallon and Maddie were thinking as it made them both more believable characters with hopes , dreams and flaws. This was fun to read with a great pace and I cannot wait to see what else this author will come up with.

Fallon had been selected to go up to the council to see if he could be a possible mated match. He knew it was a big deal as there seemed to be less n less mated New couples so this was a honour for him for his clan.
Walking into the council rooms Fallon recognises a familiar face Maddie his Maddie the one that he thought he couldn't have because she was human n he is Dragon
How can it be his Maddie. . . . . . . . . . . .
Read on to find out if Maddie feels the same way but don't get too caught up because the back story ends suddenly at 70%
& Ya have to buy the but the next book/s to find out what happens with the actual story
