When their class goes on a fieldtrip to a local farm, Teresa convinces Max to sneak out after dark to see the baby piglets. About the Author
Kyle Lukoff has worked at the intersection of books and people for over half his life, first as a bookseller, then as a school librarian, and now as a writer. He is transgender, like Max, and lives in a small Brooklyn apartment with six overflowing bookshelves.
Luciano Lozano was born the same year Man traveled to the Moon. That may be the reason why he has traveled a lot since childhood. When not traveling, he lives in Barcelona. His illustrations reflect his strong sense of color and texture, as well as his subtle sense of humor.

LovelyReviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 29, 2021
My 8-year old daughter loves this series. It challenges the notions that she already had concerning what boys and girls should and should not wear or what they should and should not play with. I am glad about that. It’s a lot easier to just accept people however they are than to go and judge them for their lack of conformity to fairly arbitrary gender norms. It also casually explains the concept of being transgender, but in such a way that it isn’t the focus of the story. It’s portrayed in a matter-of-fact way, which allows her to understand the concept and see it as something that some kids and adults simply are.

Lovely continuation of the series!Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 2, 2021
I love that this book includes Max's trans identity in a way that it is just like any other part of his personality. It's not the main focus of the book (because his identity was established in the first book), but it is referenced. I found it very helpful that we see how Max navigates through being misgendered. I could show my kid that, even if that happens, you don't need to let it derail your day. You can just do what Max does in this book and get back to being a kid and getting into trouble :)
