About Max Lucado
Max Lucado is a pastor, speaker, and bestselling author who, in his own words, “writes books for people who don’t read books.” He serves the people of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, and his message is for the hurting, the guilty, the lonely, and the discouraged: God loves you; let him.
Max is known for combining poetic storytelling and homespun humor with the heart of a pastor. Max’s books have sold more than 96 million copies in 56 languages worldwide with more than 145 million total products in print branded with his name and words. Worship is a daunting but important part of discipleship. For that reason, God gave us the Psalms...
This collection of hymns and petitions was written over a span of centuries, in many different settings, by kings such as David and Solomon and commoners like Asaph, Heman, and the sons of Korah. Some of the psalms are defiant; others are reverent. Some are meant to be sung; others are to be prayed. Some are intensely personal; others are communal. But all have one purpose—to help us express our hears to God.
As you read, study, journal, and discuss the book of Psalms, watch for these key themes that Max will unpack throughout the book:
- God is worthy of all worship.
- God will defend his people against their enemies.
- Being in relationship with God is the key to all joy and security.
The Life Lessons with Max Lucado series brings the Bible to life in twelve lessons filled with intriguing questions, inspirational stories, and poignant reflections to take you deeper into God's Word. Each lesson includes:
- An opening reflection on the Bible book you're studying.
- Background information to deepen your understanding of the cultural and historical setting.
- An excerpt of the text (from the NIV and the NKJV).
- Exploration questions with plenty of room to write your own thoughts and notes.
- Inspirational thoughts from Max as well as a closing takeaway for further reflection.
The Life Lessons series is ideal for use in both a small-group setting or for individual study.
Do you ever feel like Jesus couldn’t possibly know what you are going through? He’s the God of the universe after all! Does he really know your daily struggles? The good news is: he does.
For thirty-three years Jesus felt everything you have ever felt: weakness, weariness, sadness, rejection. His feet got tired and his head ached. He was tempted and his strength was tested. And you know why? Because in becoming human, Jesus made it possible for us to see God. His tears, God’s tears. His voice, God’s voice. Want to know what matters to God? Find out what matters to Jesus. Want to know what in the world God is doing? Ponder the words and life of Jesus.
For more than three decades, pastor and bestselling author Max Lucado has shown us Jesus. In this capstone book, he takes us further on the journey to know the life and character of the Savior.
This book describes both the person Jesus was on earth and how to live in a personal relationship with him and is divided into six sections:
- Immanuel
- Friend
- Teacher
- Miracle Worker
- Lamb of God
- Returning King
By exploring Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection as well as specific details like how he interacted with his friends and his enemies, what he did with time alone, how he acted at a party, this compilation from Max Lucado—now with original never-before-read content from Max—gives readers the chance to become more familiar with the man at the center of the greatest story ever told.
Max writes “Don’t settle for a cursory glance or a superficial understanding. Look long into the heart of Christ and you’ll see it. Grace and life. Forgiveness of sin. The defeat of death. This is the hope he gives.”
Jesus wants you to know him. As you read these pages, may the hero of all history talk to you personally, and may you find in him the answer to your deepest needs.
Are you ready to move from insecure to God secure? From regret riddled to better-because-of-it? From afraid to die to ready to fly? Today, find freedom in God’s grace.
We often talk about grace, but do we really understand it? Grace politely occupies a phrase in a hymn and fits nicely on a church sign. It never causes trouble or demands a response. When asked, “Do you believe in grace?” who could say no? Bestselling author and pastor Max Lucado helps us dive deeper into what it means to be changed by grace. God’s grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you.
In this book, you will learn:
- Grace is everything Jesus
- You belong to Jesus
- Jesus lives in you
- You will increasingly grow more like Jesus
- There is nothing you can do to get grace—grace gets you
Grace is the voice that calls us to change and then gives us the power to pull it off. Have you been shaped, emboldened, and softened by grace? Let’s make certain grace gets you.

We're all weighed down by loads we were never intended to carry. With New York Times bestselling author and pastor Max Lucado as your guide, Traveling Light invites you to release some of those heavy burdens and experience true rest.
We've all seen weary travelers--everything they own crammed into their luggage, staggering through terminals and hotel lobbies with overstuffed suitcases, trunks, duffels, and backpacks. Backs ache. Feet burn. Eyelids droop. We've all seen people like that; at times, we all are people like that--if not with our physical luggage, then at least with our spiritual load.
The suitcase of guilt. A sack of discontent. You drape a duffel bag of weariness on one shoulder and a hanging bag of grief on the other. Add on a backpack of doubt, an overnight bag of loneliness, and a trunk of fear. Pretty soon you're pulling more stuff than a skycap. No wonder you're so tired at the end of the day. Lugging luggage is exhausting.
Centered around the comforting, uplifting words of Psalm 23, Traveling Light will give you the encouragement and the tools you need to release the burdens of:
- Self-reliance
- Arrogance
- Hopelessness
- Disappointment
- Shame
There are certain weights in life that we simply aren't designed to carry, and Max reminds us that the Lord is asking you to set them down and trust him. He is the father at the baggage claim. When a dad sees his five-year-old son trying to drag the family trunk off the carousel, what does he say? The father will say to his son what God is saying to you.
"Set it down, child. I'll carry that one."
What if we took God up on his offer? We just might find ourselves traveling a little lighter.
*Now with brand-new content added, one of Max Lucado’s all-time bestselling books is updated for a new generation!*
Sometimes life appears to fall to pieces and can seem irreparable. We’ve all had our fair share of disappointments, loss, or hardships. But for every challenge there is a breathtaking promise: It’s going to be okay. How can we know? Because God so loved the world.
In 3:16, pastor and New York Times bestselling author Max Lucado encourages us to study closely the “Hope Diamond of the Bible”: John 3:16.
Max says of his favorite verse, “Every time I recall these words, they are fresh and as stunning as my first encounter with them. The mind-bending awareness of God’s limitless love, his incalculable sacrifice, and the priceless teaching at the core. How can we not review it again and again? I want this generation, and all who come after, to look closely at the key promise of God and choose the gift beyond all gifts.”
Throughout this updated and expanded edition of 3:16, Max will invite you to:
- Stand in awe of how deep, wide, long, and high God’s love is for you
- Understand more fully the living hope you have through Jesus’ death and resurrection
- Rest in the assurance that salvation is a gift from God, not something you can earn
If you know nothing of the Bible, start here. John 3:16 invites you to know God’s love deeply and intimately. And once you accept God’s love, your life will never be the same.
If you know everything in the Bible, return here. Let John 3:16 become the banner of your life, so much so that the message of God’s unending and unbending love overflows from you to others.
Each copy of 3:16 also includes a 40-day devotional designed to help you draw closer to your loving Savior.
Keep walking. This may be the day your Jericho walls come down.
We all face them. Strongholds with a strong hold on our lives. Roadblocks to our joy. Obstacles in our marriages. Fortresses of fear blocking us from peace. How can we bring down these walls that keep us from the future God promises?
Remember the story of Joshua and the battle of Jericho? Those were some formidable foes and big barriers.
Max Lucado says the book of Joshua is in the bible to remind us of one thing: God Fights For Us! We can overcome, because He has already overcome.
We were not made to stand in the shadow of our walls and quake. We were made to stand on top of Jericho's rubble and conquer. We win, because God's already won.
Need a new battle plan for life? Keep walking, keep believing. These may be your Glory Days.
