5.0 out of 5 stars Heart warming

After getting into a car accident with my children and my 4 year old not making it, I decided to buy this, along with other books, to help my 10 year old daughter grieve and understand the loss of her sister. Of course I read the book first on my own just to make sure it was appropriate and I broke down into tears by the second page. I read it to her along with my husband a few days later, needless to say we were all in tears, but it helped her open up and talk about the accident with us. We went out a few days later and bought a box. My only recommendation is when buying this book buy a box with it. I liked how this is told from a child’s point of view, I think it helps set that connection with young ones. It helped me too.

Since children are concrete learners this book gave a solution to helping their grief be hands on. It encourages them to write, collect, and think. Grief is often abstract and makes it hard for children to work through. It is a beneficial purchase to those working with children.

Used this and a photo box as a gift for a student that lost her father while she was in my class. She appreciated the gift.

Kids recently lost Thier Grandfather. Saw this in the waiting room of the hospital and ordered immediately. It's a great way to approach a very very hard to approach subject. This book is amazing. Wife is a preschool teacher and enjoyed bringing this in to her students.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for grieving children

This book is great for a grieving child. Often grieving children fear that they will lose memory of the loved one they lost. After my niece and nephew died my daughter found comfort in making her own memory box and as time has passed and she feels them slipping away, she revisits her memory box to comfort her heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book About Grief

I looked through a lot of children’s books about loss before settling on this one. I suggest looking up a reading of it on YouTube before deciding if it fits your specific situation. Reasons I liked it:
- It didn’t try to equate the sadness of losing someone with the sadness of losing something
- It was not overly religious there was no talk of god or heaven
- It focused on the feelings of those who are left and how they can cope
- It provides space for many feelings, talking about how some days are happy and others are sad

If you are looking to explain death to a child this may not be the right book, but if you are looking for a book about grief to make children feel less alone in their experiences then this is the perfect book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories of my Granpa
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on March 13, 2021

My husband passed away suddenly a little over a year ago and our grandson who was 10 at the time and autistic had a very difficult time accepting it. He and his granpa had an extremely close bond. My husband had started a memory box for him with items he knew would mean something very special. When I gave it to our grandson he couldn't quite understand why his granpa would do that. I explained why, but didn't think he truly understood. I saw this book and it would help. We read it together and went through his memory as we did. He now understands and it's something he'll hold on to forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soft and sensitive social emotional lesson

Purchase as a follow up book to When Dinosaurs Die. This is beautifully illustrated with simple sentences about grief and coping with grief. There’s no talk about how someone died but you know that’s what it’s about because of the graveyard scene. It could also support convos about grieving the loss of family after CPS intervention because it gives a great hands on activity to build memories and reminds you near or far they are always in your heart.

Purchased for my 8 year old but will be used for ages 5-10. Each of them will have their own take away.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well done and meaningful. Just differs a little from my ideology.

Well written and quality art. Appears good for helping kids put words to their feelings on the subject and giving ideas about tangible ways to process their grief. Just differs a little from my ideology.
