Based on a true story, Jim Carrey stunningly portrays the late Andy Kaufman - considered the most innovative, eccentric and enigmatic comic of his time - in Man on the Moon. "Jim Carrey is extraordinary" says The New York Post. "Jim Carrey may be a better Andy Kaufman than Andy Kaufman" writes Newsweek. Also starring Danny DeVito as Kaufman's manager, Courtney Love as the woman Andy falls in love with and Paul Giamatti as his best friend. You'll stand up and cheer for Carrey in one of the year's most entertaining movies!

The beginning is hard to watch, but the story gets more and more interesting as the plot progresses.
Based on the true story of Andy Kaufman, it makes you wish you were part of it.

It is certainly an amazing performance in the lead role by Jim Carey , who had to “become “ Andy to be able to play this unique comedy genius - his own Elvis impersonation in this film as Andy is almost as good as Andy’s was in real life on stage which is a feat in itself !
If you haven’t seen much of Andy Kauffman I highly recommend this film dvd - he was / is an incredible performer and a huge influence on the world of comedy without ever having told an actual joke !
Buy this film and enter the alternative world of Andy and all the characters he invented during such a very short life
Will he ever return as he himself stated he would ...?
It's a quirky biopic, which Jim Carrey carries off superbly, and would make a useful addition to any collection of Kaufman material. It's not really a Friday night "beer and relaxation" movie - more an "educational" student film club feature. Watching as much original Andy Kaufman performances and interviews as possible prior to seeing this movie will enable a deeper understanding and appreciation of what Carrey has achieved.
The DVD itself arrived damaged, and was not, in my opinion, a new copy as ordered. At that price it was not worth the trouble of returning it to Amazon, so I threw it away and ordered another copy from a different source. That copy arrived cellophane-wrapped, in pristine condition.
Mail order may save you the bother of going out to shop, but the element of risk and inconvenient delivery times is likely, in my view, to send people back to the high streets, eventually, where they can see what they're buying and purchase with greater confidence.
I used to watch "Taxi" on a casual basis and found AK's character amusing. Yet never knew his name at the time.
I enjoyed this film more than I thought I would and liked the way they casted Danny Devito as his manager [co actor in Taxi].
There is also some clever "mixing" with the Taxi scenes.
An enjoyable film about an alternative comedy genius.
