MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with. Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?

- The new main character is pretty bland and uninteresting, gets Mary Sued with OP powers through very little effort at the most convenient time
- The ending is rushed through in the last 10 minutes of the movie and is fairly anticlimactic. Feels like 3/4 of the movie is spent on the opening and by the time it gets into full swing it’s over.
-The casting and writing for Raiden is horrifically bad.
-The casting and writing for the other OG video game characters (other than Raiden it’s so bad) is good.
-Kano and the actor playing him carry the movie
-Lots of video game references
Overall it’s good movie if you are at all familiar with Mortal Kombat. It’s held back by the last 15 minutes of the movie on a mad dash to finish up almost like the editors ran out of time. It’s held back by the main character being a Mary Sue and some other key items like Raiden being put through with the effort of a high school cosplay.
If you love the MK game franchise or the original movie, this movie is pretty good. It makes the campy franchise almost legitimate.
All in All the movie didn't have me on the edge of my seat action fight Sean's, I didn't even get into the groove of the fight and dodge or move as if I was the fighter like the Original Mortal Kombat did.
Something to stare at in the pandemic.
Wasn't worth the money.
* movies like these hardly ever come close to the original this one was just about the same.
*far from the original, storyline was very weak.
Kano carries the entire cast only to be killed off in a 30 second scene mushed together with 5 others in the span of 10mins, very congested ending and confusing to say the least.
Hope the next one picks up the slack.
Also Prince Goro wouldn’t have gone out like a little rhymes with witch.
