About this item
- A newborn requires 10-12 diaper changes each day, you need to start with at least 2-3 dozen diapers. You won't be able to change the baby after each wetting. You need at least 20 dry diapers while the others are going through laundering. If you get less than 20, they will wear out before the baby is potty trained, because with fewer diapers, they will be laundered more frequently, the diapers will wear out quicker
- 𝗙𝗟𝗘𝗫𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘 𝗙𝗜𝗧 - Sturdy hook & loop fastener makes diapering easy yet is soft on your baby’s delicate skin. This closure makes changing easier, suitable for new parents, grandparents, baby sitters, day-care centres
- 𝟰 𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗕𝗔𝗠𝗕𝗢𝗢 𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗧 - The bamboo Insert is made of 4 layers of bamboo, there is no microfiber or fleece inside. Each diaper comes with 2 bamboo inserts that provide 8 layers of absorbency
- 𝗘𝗫𝗧𝗥𝗔 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗞 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 - A front panel on the diaper that provides extra leak protection during tummy time. Fold-back laundry tab - an extra piece of loop tape that lets you fold the tab back and secure the hook tape so it doesn't catch on other clothings in the washer or dryer
- 𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗡𝗔𝗣𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗦𝗜𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗘 𝗔𝗗𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 - Small – snap the first-row buttons into the third-row buttons (6–10 lb). Medium – snap the first-row buttons into the second-row buttons (10–15 lb). Large – leave unsnapped (15–22 lb)

Unfortunately you do get the quality that you pay for here, I’ve had at least two of them come apart at the seams after very minimal wear and washing. The hook and loop closure is a bit too thick at the tummy making it not the greatest for a newborn to comfortably bunch up in the frog position they love, more so if you have a teeny baby with a short abdomen. My guy that I bought these for was long and thin so they still worked comfortably enough. The prints are okay, some cuter than others and some cut and sewn better to suit the pattern than a few.
An oddity I didn’t expect, was that some came fleece lined and others were a terry bamboo lining. As much as I like bamboo for cloth bums, the terry really doesn’t stay all that soft after a few washes and holds onto those newborn poops much more than I’d like but they come clean well enough if you have a good washer (front load without an agitator I could see being a problem for sure) and routine. But I had bought these with the expectation of them all being fleeced lined which are ideal for them feeling dry, the terry bamboo doesn’t really do that so you might be changing more often depending on your baby’s comfort. I’ve always been a frequent changer with cloth as my babies sleep better and just happier overall with that as the routine, so this wasn’t something I was looking for but could see as a draw back on top of the annoyance of not getting what I thought I ordered.
I also ordered charcoal bamboo inserts to go with these and I’m glad I did, just adding one made them perfect for nighttime changes and getting just a bit more sleep.
Overall I would still recommend these to the limited income families and this would make a great baby shower gift even though they aren’t the creme’ de la creme’ of newborn cloth diapers.
My baby was 6 pounds 5 ounces at birth, and I wasn’t able to use the Kawaii diapers successfully til my baby was a month old. They weren’t a good fit for my newborn and her skinny thighs. Make sure the diaper elastics are snug and secure around the baby’s thighs and back to prevent leaks and blowouts; I learned the hard way. I ended up using disposable diapers in the first month as I waited for my baby’s thighs to thicken up. Once that happened the diapers were great!
The absorbency is good, the Velcro and snaps make the fit customizable, and clean up is easy! I don’t bother stuffing the inserts; I actually sewed them onto the diaper so the style is similar to the BumGenius Freetime, but with one insert. I never have to match up the diapers with the inserts and both agitate well in the wash.
For laundry, I do one load of diaper laundry every 2-3 days. I also made cloth wipes out of old receiving blankets, those go in the wash at the same time. I use Rockin Green Unscented Laundry Detergent and I have a front loading high efficiency washer. I wash twice; the first wash is a cold rinse and the second wash is the hot wash with detergent. I use the dryer too, medium heat for 20 mins. Then hang to dry.
My experience with the Kawaii diapers has been really positive. I would recommend these diapers to anyone who wants quality, inexpensive cloth diapers!
