As a Canadian, I needed to hear this story because we were not taught the truth about residential school, that they existed and were in operation into the 1990s and that the Canadian government almost erased the indigenous people from history. We must all reconcile our past, both individually and also as a society. To think that something doesn't affect you because it's "not my people" is a misnomer, indeed we are all one. So when one group hurts we all do. All I can say is read this book. We have a duty to do better than previous generations.
