I love book series about friends etc and getting to know the characters and this book has a great group of characters, but once again tons of editing mistakes, and things that didn’t make sense etc. The biggest being that in book 1 the summer house belonged to Jen’s Mom’s family, her Mother bequeathed it to her and her brother when she died. It appears, from book 1 that her mother had been gone ‘a long time’ (there are also quite a lot of vague time references throughout both books. Now her grandmother was obviously gone before her mother for her to be able to bequeath the house, yet in book 2, even though the family have used the house every year, Jen is just now getting around to sorting out “Nana’s” clothes etc! In book 2 Jen thinks about “Nana” who lived in the house for over twenty years etc, but now she’s her Dad’s mother! There are many mistakes like this and sometimes it hard to follow, and it’s hard to actually picture the house as by the end of book 2 it appears that the front “porch/deck” is where they all gather for their meals together whilst the BBQ is around the back.
However I shall have to buy book three as I want to see Faith’s story.

Carrie, Faith, and Jen are the middle age versions of Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe (FRIENDS)

They are the best of friends and have supported each other their entire lives. It's rare to find such loyalty, we as readers and women crave it.

This story is set around Carrie.
The budding relationship with DIRK, that she can't see.
Carrie is thrown for a loop when asked to watch the teen she'd raised for years, but hadn't seen since shortly after her divorce.
Bethany, hurt from feeling abandoned by Carrie puts the woman that wanted to be her mother through the ringer.... I felt there were missed opportunities to add additional conflict.

There are references to Hollywood starlets such as Audrey Hepburn. 😘

As Jen goes through her Grandmothers belonging in preparation for a vintage fashion show ... I wanted more nostalgia. Missed memories, that were never mentioned.

I am emotionally invested in these women, their children, family, friends, and the town they live in.

I am disappointed in the glaring editing errors that are mainly in the last half of the book.
This book could have hit it out of the ballpark, instead I'm leaving 3 stars.

I hope the next book has better editing.

I read the first book in the Newport Beach series, and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the second one too, but there were a number of careless errors that either a good proofreader and/or editor should have caught. Twice in Chapter 11, Jen was referred to as Carrie. If it really were Carrie, that would have changed the plot line. There are many punctuation errors - enough that it became distracting. I liked the characters and the setting; the plot this time didn't amount to too much. It could have been better and better proofreading would have helped.

If you are a fan of stand alones in a series, like I am, you’ll be disappointed in this series because it’s basically one ‘book’ (story) spread out into multiple books. I like the the Newport Beach setting but would like it better if the main characters each had their own story per book instead of it being one continuous story for all main characters.

I miss the days when authors wrote books with some meat. The first book in this series was pretty good and it also ended with a teaser about a "disaster" at the fundraiser that began in the first book. If this author considers a selfish mother inviting her daughter's ex and new spouse to a fundraiser without telling the daughter, she hasn't faced many challenges in her life. The second book also spent about a third of the book giving background from book one so new readers would know what's going on. So almost nothing happened in this book and I won't be wasting my money on the next two.
