4.0 out of 5 starsExtra comfort, double the battery life and a cool molded pod case? Yes plz.
Reviewed in Canada on October 15, 2020
Coming off of an original Rift CV1 and a Rift S I knew I'd need to get the Elite Strap due to the somewhat flimsy strap included with the Quest 2... I'm used to more support vs less support. When I saw that they were including a version of the Elite Strap with an added battery and a pretty nice looking case, the choice was made for me!

Straight up this battery strap is a very good thing, it extends the internal battery life of your Quest 2 by about 2-3 hours depending on what you're doing (obviously games eat up more power than watching a movie)... at the end of the day you get on average about 4-6 hours of total battery life, which is very useful. Compared to the included Quest 2 material strap, the battery on the back and the extra weight of the plastic helps balance out the weight of the Quest 2 itself making things feel more stable and generally more comfy. Also the adjustment knob at the back of the Elite Strap lets you get a good seal on your face. There is a USB C cable which travels from the battery pack and connects to the USB C port on the Quest 2... for charging both batteries there is a USB C port on the bottom of the battery pack (below the adjustment knob thing). Unfortunately this second USB C port does not allow for pass-through for Link (connecting the Quest 2 to a gaming PC)... you need to unplug the battery cable and let it hang to the side to use link with the main USB C port. This isn't really an issue as the Link hookup itself should keep you charged (if you have a quality cable, like the official Oculus Link cable), but the positioning of the back downward facing USB C port would make for a more logical spot for tethering (vs the front right hand side). Either way it's fine, just a bit of a missed opportunity imho.

The case itself is also quite nice, it's a dense zip up clam shell/pod type thing and is covered by a very wooly feeling felt type material... there is also a faux soft leathery strap to carry it with. It's quite nice and does exactly what it's supposed to. Only downside is the lack of (re-pluggable) holes for charging the Quest 2 in the case itself, it needs to be resting halfway out of the case, and even upside down if you have the Elite Battery Strap attached. Also the hidden zipper has stuck a few times when trying to open it for me, but I have managed to work that out. It can get stuck on the USB C cable which connects the battery pack to the headset, you can avoid this by making sure you push it down in the case before zipping it up. Overall a nice hard shell case, especially if you plan on taking it places!

At the end of the day, I do think the comfort and extra battery life is worth it and the case is well made, and very cool looking... I'm only removing a star for the minor issues listed above... ie: The lack of a convenient USB C pass-through in the battery pack for Oculus Link and the lack of a charge port, or ports really, along with a possible fussy zipper in the carrying case. Buy it for the comfort factor, the double the battery life factor and the cool case to store it in factor and you're golden! :)

Update 1 Oct 22 2020: having used this for a good solid week now I wanted to mention that I have noticed a bit of stress on the back of my head after long sessions if I've tightened the Elite Strap too much. I'm used to clamping down the halo strap on the Rift S, which maybe is not the best path to take with this Elite Strap (functionally similar but different, the Rift S halo tightens around your entire head, while this elite strap simply pulls and holds the visor tighter to your face), I've found that keeping it a little looser has been better... otherwise I still think this is the way to go!

Update 2 Nov 19 2020: Wanted to point out one annoyance which has come up, if you leave the fully charged battery pack plugged into the headset and turn the headset off for a couple days (not on standby, actually turn it off), when you come back the battery pack will have zero charge. Why? Who knows, but it kind of sucks. The only solution I've found is to disconnect the USB C cable from the Quest 2 when you turn it off... the battery pack will still have a full charge the next time you plug it in.

Update 3 Oct 2021 - One year later and this battery strap is still going strong, no breaks in the plastic, and no issues beyond what was mentioned above!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Accessory Ever - at least for now
Reviewed in Canada on November 3, 2020

Revised Review - Oculus replaced it free of charge.

Revised Review - it cracked like everyone else said. Quality is garbage.

I love this item, I really do. It adds a new level of comfort and a extended battery life that more than doubles your play time. It's a must have accessory.

That said, I am a bit concerned about the reports of the straps cracking. Amazon is good about returns and my understanding is Oculus is replacing cracked straps as part of their warranty. I just really hope I don't have to go through that because I am one of the fortunate few that managed to get one of these while available. If I have to return it I'm sure I'll be waiting forever to get another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Longer battery life and more comfortable to wear, what's not to love?
Reviewed in Canada on January 20, 2022

Lets be real here, the original strap on the Quest 2 sucks. Enter the Elite Strap: a quantifiable upgrade to the Quest 2 experience!

So lets kick things off in a list for easy pro / con viewing.

Pros:
- the battery adds legit 2 or 3 hours of use time out of the headset, depending on what you're doing
- the head strap is way more comfortable than the original one. The different is night and day! No more weird pressure points all over my face, now I can comfortably adjust the pressure and wear my headset longer
- the case is a pretty nice addition. I wasn't really sure if I'd use it, but when I moved apartments I'm glad I had it!
- its easy to adjust the 'angle' of the headset cause there are rotating points where it connects. So if you find there is too much pressure on the top, you can adjust it so its sitting a little different at a better angle

Lets talk about the cons:
- No oculus link via cable while the headset battery is plugged in is very annoying. There appears to be no data transfer between the strap and the headset. The solution is to just unplug the strap battery and plug the link cable directly into the headset, but that's lame. It'd be nice if they updated it to allow data transfer (Note: this does not mean you need to use the old strap. Just gotta unplug the battery which is ez)
- this thing is pretty expensive! I'm hesitant to say its worth how much it costs, but the upgrade and additional comfort it provides is pretty quantifiable

Overall, I'm pretty happy I bought this (even if it did dent the wallet a bit) as its made using my Quest 2 a much more pleasant experience. Now if only they'd come out with a lighter overall headset...

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfier than I expected
Reviewed in Canada on July 9, 2021

I'll say upfront that I haven't had this for too long. I can't comment on how long the battery can maintain its life after repeated use, or how durable the plastic straps are since they are (apparently) notoriously prone to breaking. I felt confident enough in the 2-year warranty that I decided to purchase it, and so far so good.

The elite strap does make a big difference in comfort, even over those cheaper pads you can get to add to the default strap. It provides a firm and secure grip, but still has the headset feeling lighter and more comfortable to wear (probably because it is more balanced with the battery). I no longer get irritation and rashes on my forehead as a result of this strap.

The case seems durable enough for basic travel. The zipper can sometimes be hard to work as it catches on the cable-management tab on the headset, but otherwise I find that it is still easier to pull everything out for use (or to put it away) compared to storing the headset in the original box like I had been doing. All in all I am currently happy with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it!

I love the design and material of the carrying case. I bought another no-brand carrying case for my first Quest, but this one is classier and chicer. The elite strap with battery is a nice design; I can keep on playing for a while before recharging. It does not feel comfortable though however. I had to purchase a separate cushion for the elite strap and another strap on top to lift the pressure off me to make it more comfortable with making it work. Pros: Nice looking and design. Cons: Too pricey. Some people say it's not durable. I hope mine does not crack.

I have had the Oculus Quest 2 for a few months now. Battary did not last very long. Bought this combo and wish I got it sooner. Not only has my gaming and entertainment time improved significaly but my neck does not hurt any more. The strap fits my head like a glove, wish the Elite Strap was part of the original package.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality zipper on case.

Elite strap works great. I was excited to have a case for my Oculus however the first time I tried to unzip the case with my Oculus in it, the zipper string ripped right off.

After trying to pry my finger in the case to open it / access my Oculus (not wanting to use anything sharp at the risk of damaging the VR itself) it managed to cut my finger open and bleed over my headset. Luckily it wasn't near the lenses.

After how much I paid for this combo I would expect a quality product.

I would avoid using this case unless you can reinforce the zipper string.

An enormous improvement over the stock strap, very comfortable and easy to put on and remove. great for friends too since its so quick to adjust.
The included hard case is a great value ad. Holds the headset and controllers and a couple cloths for wiping the unit.

The built in battery is seamless and increases the battery life enormously. mine went from about 2.5hrs to over 5.

The Elite Battery Strap looks great attached to the Quest 2 and gives a few hours of extra play time. The counterweight of the battery balances the headset in such a way as to keep pressure off my face and cheeks. It also tightens and loosens very easily with the wheel / ratchet. This keeps the headset nice and tight and keeps the display in the sweet spot, reducing god rays. The case is also excellent, great fit for the headset and strap. This was expensive but well worth it. Highly recommended.
