Born in Vienna, Austria, Werner is now living in Perth, Australia with his wife, two married children, and three grandchildren. He worked many years in the printing industry and later for the United Nations in Vienna. After an eventful life, now retired, he began to write children's stories, had them illustrated through Upwork, narrated them himself for YouTube and finally published the ebooks on most platforms. Werner's dream is to see "Oliver and Jumpy" animated as a TV series.

There are lots of fairy tales and bedtime stories around and many of them quite violent. This made Werner decide to write something different. On a flight from Europe to Australia, he watched the movie Magic on Belle Island with Morgan Freeman, where Freeman teaches a little girl to have imagination and write her first story. This inspired Werner as well and the first stories with his two characters Oliver, the elegant tomcat, and Jumpy, his kangaroo lady friend, made their appearance. Some very capable illustrators have helped to create this picture book series.

Author Peter Frederick sums it all up!

Here are books created by Werner Stejskal, an author who has a wonderful sense of adaptability into the world of a child. Movements, sentiments, expressions, and ideas are being visualized, that enthrall and win over the little reader. Plus, his terminology is perfectly matched to the mood of each self-contained story. The author also displays amazing sensitivity and is able to transport even adults back into long-past childhood. All good virtues are being emphasized, like friendship, loyalty, determination and civility, giving the fascinated reader the right signals for spiritual development. The main characters, Oliver and Jumpy, are the masters of a variety of situations that draw the reader into the stories. But one of the main reasons for the success of these children's books is the artwork! The graphics, outstandingly created by the artist, have their hues and shapes completely adapted to the respective situation and so contribute to the emotional absorption of each picture. Text and message, somber feelings and cheery situations are being created and masterly entertain the little readers. One can only recommend this series of children's books to all adults who wish to keep their little ones occupied in a positive, entertaining and learning environment!

I would like to introduce the six illustrators who made ‘Oliver and Jumpy’ so successful. These talented ladies and gents have put a lot of effort into their art.

Marvin Alonso, is a gentleman from the Philippines. He started off the series with amazing pictures and a huge initiative. He never needed to be told anything and developed all scenes by himself. Unfortunately, he decided to look for other work after about 10 stories. He was sorely missed.

The next illustrators did between one to four stories each.

Vinil Raj

Yon Rifa’i

Anahii Aleksanyan

Mario Tereso

And then there is Maycee Ann Reyes and her husband Allan … They were everything one could wish for. Developing great scenes, self-reliant, reliable, courteous and quick. These guys got married while working on 400 illustrations for my series. I can highly recommend this talented team for any of your picture book illustrations.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for little children for a read-aloud or read it yourself!
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on October 5, 2019
I am always in search for good children's books, for children of all ages, since I take part in read-alouds for groups of children in between 3 and 13 years. When my turn comes to read to the little ones I must be sure to have a few good stories at hand to share.

In yesterday's read-aloud time for the group of 3 to 6 year old, I chose to talk about Oliver and Jumpy, Introduction to the Series after our main read.

When you read to a group of little ones, you are never sure how they will react or receive the story. Some instantly get bored, others fidget, and the tale needs to have all sorts of great stuff and adventure in it to hold them in place. Great pictures are a must too! Everyone knows that! :)

Oliver and Jumpy was a success! Everyone loved them!

The great pictures of the book instantly appealed to my little troupe and they all wanted to know more!
When did they build the snowman together?!
What trouble was there on the Monkey Island?!
How is a snow ball fight with ice cream?!
I want to know about the rescued dog!!!
and above all..
Ohh!! A little Dino!! He's so cute!!! I wanna know about the Dino!!!

I'll be grabbing a volume of Oliver and Jumpy for this evening's read-aloud, (hopefully I'll get the one with the little Dino :D) and my little troupe of adventurers and I will embark on a new awesome journey with our new found friends!

If you have little adventurers of your own at home, this might be just the right series to make them happy! I'll be telling you about our journey through it as we tackle one adventure at a time!
