After twelve years of tenuous coexistence, a change in one family’s interests causes a rift in the existing stalemate. When bad blood brings both families to the precipice of disaster, fate intervenes with a chance encounter, and in the aftershocks of a resurrected conflict, everyone must choose a side. As each of the siblings struggles to stake their claim, fraying loyalties threaten to rot each side from the inside out.
If, that is, the enmity between empires doesn’t destroy them first.

About the authors
Olivie Blake is the pseudonym of Alexene Farol Follmuth, a lover and writer of stories, many of which involve the fantastic, the paranormal, or the supernatural, but not always. More often, her works revolve around what it means to be human (or not), and the endlessly interesting complexities of life and love.
Olivie has penned several indie SFF projects, including the webtoon Clara and the Devil with illustrator Little Chmura and the viral Atlas series. As Follmuth, her young adult rom-com My Mechanical Romance releases May 2022.
Olivie lives in Los Angeles with her husband and baby, where she is generally tolerated by her rescue pit bull. More on Olivie can be found at www.olivieblake.com.
Little Chmura is a digital illustrator and animator. Her illustration practice is focused on portraits, with a special interest for intense dramatic looks. Little Chmura loves working with strong contrast, textured brush strokes and animation to create incandescent art. In recent years, she created Clara and the Devil webtoon series with Olivie Blake and a collection of the Atlas Six illustrations.

this book was the second instalment of olivie blake that I have read. after reading the atlas six, I was excited to dive into another of blake’s books. one for my enemy didn’t disappoint at all. The combination of the legend of koschei the deathless and romeo and juliet was fascinating from finish to end. the book is written like a play, with a list of the characters (the cast) at the start, interludes and the chapters being separated as scenes, a clear easter egg to the play which the book was inspired in.
the story and the characters of one for my enemy were captivating from the start. the story is quick-paced and intriguing, it’s full of plot-twists, you never know what to expect next. the romance in this book was one of my favourite parts from the story. lev and sasha’s dynamic was refreshing and fun, completely different from the other couple. marya and dimitri, who were passionate and tragic. the sibling relationship in the book is also one of the strongest points from the plot. marya and sasha’s relationship is heartwarming and the fedorov brothers, dimitri, lev and roma, who struggle with their loyalty to each other, and their father, is heart wrenching.
the only thing i would change from one for my enemy is the lack of appearance of the other four antonova sisters, while they do appear, I would have liked to see more of them and their relationship with each other and sasha and marya. despite that, blake wrote an amazing book that hooks you in from start to finish, i couldn’t seem to put the book down. the magic elements, the plot, the characters and the layout of the book created an amazing book in a short standalone. easily one of my favourite reads of 2021.
