How we became self-sufficient in homesteading as a family
I want to share my life story with you as a way to help others going through a difficult situation. I realize that today many are facing financial and other major life issues. At first I went about my life, enjoying everything I had and none the wiser about how difficult things could become. However, that's when my life changed. It wasn't long after I lost my job that I found myself struggling to support my wife and our six-year-old son. I began to worry about what I was going to do and how I could possibly turn the situation around. That's when I learned about something called homesteading. I had never heard of it before, and it took quite a learning curve, but in just 12 months I was able to make our family self-sufficient and improve our life to a standard even better than it was before. So if you find yourself in a similar situation consider homesteading. Let me take you through my first 12 months and you'll be amazed at what you can do when you set your mind to it.

In my opinion, this is very well organized book. It covers details on how to raise livestock, fishing, as well as, planting and harvesting a garden for your cooking needs, how to store rain water, even down to entertainment and finances. Not only does the book cover details about harvesting a garden, it also contains information about different ways to preserve your harvest, i.e., canning, and freezing, are just a few I am mentioning, but the book provides more. I was truly fascinated reading how to make your own personal items for hygiene use. Reading about making lotion and soap is useful information to all, even if you are not interested in homesteading. Providing information on making your own cleaning supplies from windows to the bathroom and floors is a winner too. This book even covers information on making some of your own household items furniture!
I think the information on what you need to know about homeschooling, and the different methods of homeschooling, is very helpful, also. I love how the book provides information on herbal remedies! This book lays it out on how you can use herbs for beauty care, first aid, even down to sore muscles. I could go on and on about this book. It really is a good book to have in your collection and certainly one that you can learn from!

I am a city girl born and bred by parents who grew up on farms. The work is not for lazy people, but if you have that itch that wants to live free and sustainable, go find the land and begin working it. Scratch that itch if you must. This girl needs her internet and pre-packaged food!
I liked the home schooling part …lol…we did the “last resort” even though we lived in the city. One important thing he didn’t mention was contacting the state homeschool association of your state for advice and help. They offer wonderful resources.
