Great Camera, Several Negative Flaws
Reviewed in Canada on December 1, 2020
I love Wyze products, I have over 10 cameras installed inside and outside my home and they have performed extremely well with no issues at all.
I got this camera to have a solid wireless camera and get a view of my pool from the outside, and look for any motion like animals as I have seen some of them damaging my AC
To be frank this camera has disappointed me and although it is brand new it works, however, shows many flaws relating to the motion sensors.
Good image quality during the day, Blurry during the night but could be fixed with an update.
- With the range on far and sensitivity to the highest level the motion will not trigger until something is around 10ft of it or less, the hard-wired Wyze cameras are too sensitive almost and are perfect.
- This camera does not have the detection zone system like the other cameras, it uses a different technique but it is not perfected, I would prefer the detection zone but to adjust it on this camera you must move the camera physically.
-Storage, the camera only takes 32gb and in this day and age almost all cameras have well over 128gb storage, it kills this camera as 32gb will fill up very quickly.
To end off the two largest fails of this camera are the new motion detection sensors, and the inabillity to use a larger sd card.
I'm giving it 4 stars as the battery life is so good compared to any of my other cameras, another issue I had was while trying to do the first time setup the app would give me an error or the wifi base would not show up at all, after trying a few times it eventually was fixed.
Update: 2021-01-04, Camera software has been improved slightly, it is less buggy however still no option to see any motion which was captured unless you go to the dock itself on the app and then look through the album, I would prefer how the Wyze cam v2 has it where it shows up in the events tab. Battery life seems to be good, for the month or so it has been running battery has only gone down 20%. Still need to fix several issues if they are asking $80-100 per kit.
Update: 2021-01-28: New software updates were released, now you can see any motion through the Wyze app and all you have to do is click the events tab and select the camera, battery life is still solid and the nighttime vision quality has been improved as well. Good job wyze, I will be adding another star to this review.
Update: 2021-09-30: After using this camera for several months it has randomly died, just charges but will not power on, seems like something internal has broken causing the charge light to turn on only. Wyze support WILL NOT warranty it, WYZE ONLY COVERS PRODUCTS IN THE LOWER 48, Canadians only get the 30 days amazon return. So I'm out $100 but will be purchasing an add-on camera for $60 as these work extremely well.
