1.0 out of 5 stars SLOW. This is not SSD speeds, this is cheap HDD speeds.
By VanUser on July 6, 2019
It comes nicely packed, and like all SSDs easy to install, standard.

I was going to keep this one and give my old (4 year old) SSD to my mom for her computer, but I noticed this new one is actually slower.
I removed the old SSD and installed the OS on the new one, so all the setup was the same.
I tested the drive by copying 10Gb with 700 files and I got the standard 100Mb/s speed, which I wasn't happy about, the drive claims 450Mb/s, my old one does the same and only claimed 350.
The problem was when copying a 25GB high definition file. It started at 250Mb/s but quickly after 30 seconds dropped to an average of 60Mb/s and stayed there. 7 minutes to copy a 25gb file.

The hard drive was cheap and my mom won't notice the difference. Still, I had a faster 500gb HDD laying around which I could have used. I was looking forward to upgrading even if only by 100Mb/s but this is actually slower.

In terms of read speeds I'd say it's standard, I didn't notice any slowness in particular.

Given that I wanted to keep it and now I'm giving it away this was a terrible purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap & Efficient
By Johnny Extreme on December 22, 2018
Same price as the slower Kingston A400 series SSDs, same warranty, just as simple and hopefully reliable. I rarely have SSDs fail on me and I'm certain this will carry through the 3 year warranty. Works well in an old HP I upgraded where the hdd failed over time. Would recommend!

Edit 2 years later:
Just bought another one of these because they're just really awesome drives. I can't help but feel bad for the non-tech customers that complain that it's the drives fault for not working or lack of instructions. This ain't Ikea. Do your research and learn how to install and initialize your storage. Anyway, highly recommended and I'll continue buying more of these in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cheap SSD option!
By Dylan on June 21, 2021
I have purchased 3 of the 120gb version of these SSD's.
The price is unbeatable, but the performance of these little drives is nothing to call home about when compared to the more expensive SATA based SSD's from Samsung/Crucial/Sab Disk/Seagate.

But when compared to the also cheap Kingston A400 these win on both benchmarks and real life performance!

The defining difference I think is unlike the A400, Patriot included a tiny 32mb DRAM cache.
Honestly nothing compared to what you would see in the more expensive SATA based SSD's (anywhere from 256mb to over 1gb)

But clearly that tiny 32mb makes a huge difference compared to the 0mb you'd get in the Kingston A400.
A drive that sometimes feels like I am using a HDD again in some situations. (Referring to the A400)

These drives I have only installed in systems that got more light use but I wanted to insure would boot faster & they done exactly that!

So far no issues with reliability, the system I used that had the most heavily use & ran nearly 24/7 & did a good deal of data processing even on this SSD.
But I sold it with the drive recently..
If anything happens to the drive I installed in my grandmothers computer or my mothers fiancé I will update the review.

But for the 120gb model the value is unbeatable!
Mind you if you want a higher compacity drive... I recommend spending a tiny bit more on something like the Crucial MX500.
Because the higher the compacity of these drives get the worse they are on over all value compared to the bigger named drives with far better performance!

Either way great product for basic use computers that are still using a hard disc drive!
