1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy. Lies !
By shelley aver on September 26, 2020
Horrible, it makes residential schools seem pleasant and does not discuss at all how these children/ family were mistreated . If you are reading this to a child it is very inaccurate. I wanted my child to have a grasp of what happened to teach her of the struggles and abuse that happened so she would have some company and understanding. Glorifying a tragedy, my husband is indigenous and his grandparents experienced this first hand. We threw this book in the trash !

1.0 out of 5 stars ZERO STARS. Phyllis' Orange Shirt (the version for younger children)
By Malo on August 23, 2021
Whether or not this story is meant for younger children, saying that the teacher "treated her sweetly" is counterproductive to the message this book should be sending.
Residential schools were not a place where children felt well treated and cared for.

Terribly disappointed. I will not be using this book in my class, or for my own children.
If it wouldn't cost me a much to send back as it did to buy I would return it.
I can't speak to the other version, but I recommend you don't buy Phyllis' Orange Shirt.
