A young girl sets out on errands for the day, and while she's gone, the farm maiden prepares a piñata from scratch with help from a boy, horse, goose, cat, sheep, and farmer. After they all fall asleep in the afternoon sun, they must scramble to finish preparations in time - just as the girl arrives back to her surprise party. Key English words change to Spanish as the cumulative verse builds to the celebratory ending. With the familiarity of The House That Jack Built, this tale cleverly incorporates Spanish words. This story makes learning the language easy and fun.

A JOYOUS PARTY-IN-A-BOOK!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 21, 2019Verified Purchase
Books are an investment. Of time, money, emotion and thought. If they're good books, they'll travel with you for decades - perhaps even generations. Especially if they're children's books - the most magical of all - because they convey so much truth, beauty and possibility in such concise potent verse. If you're reading these reviews looking to make such an investment/attachment/"book friendship", I doubt that you can make a better choice than Samantha Vamos' latest creation "The Pinata That The Farm Maiden Hung". This is a book that perfectly marries a playful, unfurling, bi-lingual, romping story with stunning illustrations that dazzlingly project the tone and sentiment of the story's words. It's perfection.

LOVE these books!

My family loves these books. The way they are written is genius in that it is repetitive enough to help my kids learn the Spanish words but it’s not boring. One of the best bilingual books we’ve had so far in helping my young children learn Spanish.

Samantha's books make me so happy!

I love Samantha's new book The Piñata That The Farm Maiden Hung!
I like the sequence of the storytelling. And, the drawings are excellent!
My favorite character of the book is the boy and horse because the boy reminds me of me and my friends.
I also love the book The Cazuela That The Farm Maiden Stirred! I started reading it in kindergarten and I like how both books have English and Spanish.

What a beautiful bilingual children’s book! I showed this to my sister, a retired reading specialist, who said it would be a wonderful addition to her reading class library. The instructions for the piñata would be a great hands on tool. I have purchased two earlier books from this author, as gifts to nieces and nephews, but find it hard to give this one away...it looks too beautiful on my book table.

“The Piñata That The Farm Maiden Hung” is a lovely, rhythmic piece of literature for all ages to enjoy. The story captures any child’s (or adult’s) attention, and narrates the pleasent story of humans and animals working together to make a piñata. A very uplifting, sweet story!
