This book, and I should have been tipped off when I saw it was spiral bound, doesn't have the same depth to it. What this book offers is a surface level review of the important concepts covered by Power of Our Words and applies those concepts, in a simple way, to Middle School level. As a refresher this book was great. It was validating to see all the places I had incorporated its practices into how I naturally talk with students and made clear some areas where I could still improve. If this had been my first exposure to the concepts it wouldn't have made any impact on me.
So if used in a professional development course (a substantial portion of the book is clearly designed for this purpose) or as an addendum to the original, it's great. You will be happy with your purchase (as I largely am). But it's not a book I could place in the hands of colleagues as it doesn't really stand on its own all that well.
