Product description

“The challenge of not only describing, but also starting to explain, psychopathology is a daunting one, but Psychopathology does a superb job. … Students’ understanding and appreciation for the key issues in psychopathology etiology, assessment, intervention and research will increase tremendously by reading this text.” - Bethany Teachman, PhD, Director, Program for Anxiety, Cognition and Treatment; Associate Professor of Psychology, University of Virginia, USA

“The editors have assembled a very distinguished group of experts whose contributions comprise a valuable textbook with excellent attention to current psychopathology research. The special attention to clinical judgment, and mental health and aging are particularly appealing and important features.” - Barry A. Edelstein, PhD, Eberly Distinguished Professor, Department of Psychology, West Virginia University, USA

“This book will be of great value to mental health professionals across career stages. … For all readers, the book's clarity and insight on the nature of psychopathology itself, on clinical assessment, on cultural dimensions, and more, will provide an invaluable resource.”Thomas Joiner, PhD, Author of Lonely at the Top and Why People Die by Suicide

"This textbook will be of great value to all students and health professionals in the field of psychology and psychiatry as it gives them access to the main issues of contemporary psychopathology and to updated data about specific disorders throughout the life-span." - Diane Purper Ouakil, European Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

My major scholarly interest is the interface of social, clinical, and health psychology, which is concerned with the ways that theory and research from social psychology can help us understand psychological adjustment, psychological disorders, and health-related behavior. My professional mission is to enhance well-being around the world through the promotion of psychological science.

I earned my Ph.D in clinical psychology (with a minor in social psychology) from the University of Alabama in 1981. I am the former director of the clinical doctoral program at George Mason and former editor of the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology.
