One aspect of the text that the authors and editors DO get right is to emphasize the cultural aspect of disorders, and to think critically about cultural influences and how they shape clients who may someday pass through our doors as future clinicians. But even this point is overdone to the extent that it shouts out all other objectiveness that needs to be present.
In its place, I would recommend the 'Oxford Textbook of Psychopathology' which presents a much more balanced approach and discussion about Psychopathology. The 'Oxford' text was only a suggested text that I bought by mistake for my course, but I am glad that I made the mistake. It did well to balance out the misinformation of the 'Maddux and Winstead' text and will be a permanent part of my collection.
