UPDATE: the second sprinkler has now snapped in the same spot as the first, so obviously a design flaw. Hoping we can have a friend file them into a 'V" again so that they are easier to insert into the ground.

The metal base is very solid and can be purchased alone at a cost that makes this sprinkler a good deal. If I ever change the sprinkler, I will keep the base to use with the new one.

I have been using these for almost a month. I've installed two in my front and two in the backyard. The water pressure at my house is decent enough to use two at once. Being that it can rotate at a very wide angle, your coverage is very adequate.
The side splash prevention isn't as perfect as Rainbird claims and it still hits the sidewalk or driveway but it's not that bad. The impact sprinkler is easy to use and versatile. Easy to connect to the hose to the metal spike and the spike itself inserts to the Arizona clay soil very easily (it rained a few days prior to installation which is probably why it was easier to plant the spike).
This was a major upgrade compared to an oscillating sprinkler with a fixed range and lots of water mist being carried away by the wind, which wastes water. The impact sprinkler delivers a strong stream with fat rain droplets. The only considerable con would be that it's a bit loud since it's an impact sprinkler but I don't mind it at all since I don't hear it from inside.
Although this may seem expensive buying them at $20 per sprinkler, it's very worth the cost. If the sprinklers break, you can just buy the actual sprinkler and replace the old one and keep the spike. I'm glad I gave this a try! Hopefully they'll last a while.
