First things first, read Rexus before reading this book. I didn’t, thinking it was a side story, and it made the transition into the new story a bit of a hassle.

With that out of the way, what a great read! You can very clearly see that Dakota has allowed his character garden to grow organically, instead of it being a plot device. It really sets the whole story apart.

This isn’t just reserved for the main character either. We continue the see the world and settings evolve in new and interesting ways, making it for an extremely enjoyable and entertaining time.

This is, without a doubt, the BEST LitRPG series I've read. There are other RPG books with good characters, complex worlds, decent humour, and fun game mechanics. However, the vast majority of titles in this genre have terrible writing quality. Most of them feel like fan-made web stories that were simply copy-pasted to Amazon with virtually no editing.

This is the first series I've found that brings a LitRPG title up to the quality you would expect from a mainstream fantasy book. I'll be fighting the withdrawal until the next book comes out. Maybe I should start drinking coffee...

It seems like ages ago that we read about Joe in book 3, now we get another chance to read about his continued journey. The pace, characters and humor will keep most readers glued to the pages. I found the book to be funny and serious at the same time. I enjoyed the backstabbing guilds and the final scenes in the throne room wonderfully crafted. Now my only problem is waiting for book 5.

Most story threads felt unfinished, like there was no payoff. The whole series seems to be slowly falling into the pattern that the author has many many ideas and wants to fit them all in without worrying about cohesivity. If Joe needs some time alone, then let's just not mention his party again. There is no time taken to try and tie things up before beginning something anew. And the things that are finished, are just never mentioned again anyways. The stakes of constantly shift up and down, with overuse of the ultimate "delete your character permanently" threat. The ending is abrupt, and the whole final mission feels pointless and contrived, shoved in there just so the title of the book can make sense.

Dakota is a good author, I like his worlds and humour. However it feels like he is becoming more and more rushed in his books as time goes on, which worries me.

The book focuses more on the development of the guild and its needs more than adventuring which is a nice change but I do hope that the next book has that back as I personally love the way it all works out in the end
