Product description

From the Inside Flap

ENHANCE YOUR PERSONAL AND WORK LIVES THROUGH CREATIVE RITUALS

Rituals for Work is an accessible guide to the rituals that individuals, teams, and organizations can use to make their work lives more meaningful. Drawing from empirical research and rich examples from industry, the authors show how rituals can spark creativity, get to flow, deal with conflict and failures, and build a culture of innovation.

"At IDEO and the Stanford d.school we use ritual as a tool to get teams in sync emotionally and mentally. Margaret and Kursat's book is full of ready to go rituals that will tune your teams and might just become your secret weapon."
—DAVID KELLEY, founder and chairman of IDEO, founder of the d.school at Stanford University, and bestselling author of Creative Confidence

"Kursat Ozenc and Margaret Hagan have created and curated a whole new set of powerful work rituals for the 21st Century. Playful and profound, these rituals will help you and your organization create meaning, tackle challenges and live your values."
—AYSE BIRSEL, Author of Design the Life You Love

"This wonderful book helps us to be more present in your personal and work life. Margaret and Kursat offer a variety of rituals to mark and honor individual and organizational events and to signify new ones. This book belongs on your shelf if you do collaborative work, or if you lead, manage and direct teams on a day-to-day basis."
—JODI FORLIZZI, Professor and Director of Human Computer Interaction Institute, Carnegie Mellon University

"Visual, lively, and timely. Rituals for Work reminds us of the potential for creativity to transform how we work, and our ability to build the kinds of organizations that we want to be a part of. Kursat and Margaret open up a conversation that we don't have that often — how we can create better work lives for ourselves, whether it's as a CEO, a middle manager, or an entry-level employee."
—MARSHALL GOLDSMITH is the New York Times #1 bestselling author of Triggers, Mojo, and What Got You Here Won't Get You There

"Rituals For Work is practical, fun, and timeless. Ozenc and Hagan's compelling blend of stories, drawings, advice, and proven tools can help any leader develop and instill effective workplace rituals. If you are looking for better ways to implement change, innovate, build closer bonds, or reduce destructive conflict, you need this relentlessly useful gem."
—ROBERT I. SUTTON, Stanford Professor and author of national bestsellers, including The No Asshole Rule and (with Huggy Rao) Scaling Up Excellence

The cover of the book itself hits that this a fun book to read. I really liked how the book is organized, and how different types of contents (interviews, lists, examples etc,) are mixed with very cute figures so that you never get bored and go through the book very quickly. Each ritual is explained very clearly with great examples. I find it very useful how the authors explain the use cases and the way each ritual can be applied at different levels (individual, team, organization). The interviews in the book provide more context about some of the rituals by explaining the source, how it was applied etc. Although the book is intended to improve productivity at work, I think some of the rituals can definitely be applied outside work. I have even tried some of them with my kids. Overall, I think this is a great reference book to get ideas bout rituals to improve productivity in different fun ways.
