New York Times best-selling author Rachel Hawkins serves up a deliciously royal romance, perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen and Huntley Fitzpatrick.
Meet Daisy Winters. She's an offbeat 16-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair; a part-time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who's nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her to join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond.
While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince's roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. The crown - and the intriguing Miles - might be trying to make Daisy into a lady...but Daisy may just rewrite the royal rulebook to suit herself.
New York Times best-selling author Rachel Hawkins brings her signature humor, love of Americana, and flair for romance to this addictive Princess Diaries-turned-upside-down story.

Daisy is trying to keep her head up while her family emerges into a new life
She has a hate relationship with Miles - I think it's more of a relationship of miscommunication.
I loved this story - it was light & fun. Daisy also mends the relationship with her sister and family. She learns a lot about herself and what she wants out of life. How to maneuver her new life.
If I had to choose I liked books two better but this is a great story as well
This book had me feeling giddy the whole way through! It was the perfect amount of snark, humour, and Royal family drama. I didn’t know I needed a book that had the sass and drama of The Princess Diaries and the romantic entanglements of She’s the Man, but here it is! It’s basically like the lovechild of those two things.
Royals follows Daisy Winters as she is forced into the limelight because her sister Eleanor gets engaged to the future King of Scotland. While her sister was basically born to be a princess, Daisy would rather live her boring old life working at a dead-end grocery store and nerd out with her best friend. Ever since her ex-boyfriend tried to sell her out for money, Daisy has resented her sister’s engagement. But of course, the press discover who she is and suddenly her world and her sister’s world collide.
Daisy unwillingly gets sent to Scotland so that she doesn’t cause any more trouble before her sister’s wedding. But somehow she manages to end up on the front page everywhere she goes, and ends up causing more scandal than she’s worth. The worst part is that Eleanor’s soon-to-be brother-in-law Prince Sebastian is a Grade A troublemaker and he drags her down with him. It certainly doesn’t help that he is surrounded by a group of friends named the Royal Wreckers.
One of those friends is Miles, who is supposed to keep an eye on Daisy and make sure she doesn’t stir up any more drama. The problem is that Miles hates her guts and trouble seems to follow Daisy wherever she goes. She also hates being told what to do and her rebellious nature definitely doesn’t help. What I loved about her character is that she is just so unapologetic about who she is and she has no shame when it comes to not fitting in with Scottish Royalty. Daisy is so completely sarcastic and brutally honest, which I couldn’t get enough of! But hey, with the world out to get her for being herself, who can blame her?
One thing I will point out is that this book did have a few bad Scottish stereotypes that kind of made me cringe a little bit, but that’s the only thing I’m iffy about. Rachel Hawkins has created an awesome fictional version of the Scottish Royal family with loads of drama and humour as well as just a hint of fluff. This was such a scandalous contemporary romance that had me borderline snorting with laughter. I can’t wait to see where the next book goes because I’m hooked!
I really, really, really enjoyed this novel. It was cute, it was funny, it was sarcastic, and it was equal parts relatable and not relatable. I honestly sped through these pages and could. not. get. enough. Seriously, I wanted the sequel in my hot little hands like...yesterday. Ms. Hawkins, in the nicest way possible, chop to it.
There was a lot of hype surrounding this novel and as such, I was apprehensive. However, after completing it, I fully support the hype and believe that it's well deserved. Everything about this book reads like a modern day tale on being inducted into a Royal family as a "commoner" and includes the struggles of not following a typical tradition. As well, it looks into just how much it impacts the family members of someone who has made the decision to marry into royalty.
This story is definitely told in an entertaining way but there is some moments that have you questioning just how much someone would have to sacrifice for love.
I definitely would recommend this for those that like a realistic contemporary surrounding royalty, but I would also recommend this to anyone who is looking for a fun, humorous, and quick read.
***Thank you to Penguin Random House Canada for sending me an advanced reader's copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review***
I loved the plot. Daisy is suddenly thrown into the spotlight when her sister becomes engaged to the Prince of Scotland. She had to deal with this new fame, which led to many scandalous photos in the British press and damage control by the royal family’s press secretary.
The story had some examples of the press stories throughout the book. There were more of these at the beginning, and I loved them. They were a funny little break in the main story that showed how the royal family was described to the rest of the world. These stories tapered off towards the end, and the stories were just described by Daisy. I wish there had been more of these press stories, because they were very entertaining.
I loved this book! I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

That book is Royals for me.
It's been a looooong time since I've read a story cover to cover in one sitting and found myself truly reluctant to put it down, but Rachel Hawkins made it so easy for me to lose myself in her comedic, dramatic and romantic teen novel, one that follows Daisy Winters as she's thrust into the royal life after her older sister Eleanor gets engaged to Alex, the Prince of Scotland. It's when media attention turns to Daisy - and not in the good way - that she's brought to Scotland for the summer to be kept under the watchful eye of The Palace.
What Daisy wasn't anticipating for was how different these royals were behind closed doors, most especially The Royal Wreckers - who consist of Prince Sebastian and his four friends, one of whom is our male lead, Miles - who end up causing her presence to be more problematic than was wanted.
If Royals were a movie, it'd not only be the new The Princess Diaries, but it'd be up there with my fav British rom-com of all time: Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging. It was a joyous, light-hearted, and an amazingly fast-paced, fun and funny and a fluffy read, one with unforgettable characters you can easily relate to - characters who're real and vulnerable and they make their mistakes, but they're strong enough to never let those mistakes bring them down - a memorable romance and an unpredictably entertaining storyline.
It is the ultimate teen read... and THAT is why I'm rating this book four stars.
Honestly? I kept forgetting that this was a YA Contemporary, and the last time I read a book in that genre was back in 2017, so I truly feel like I would've loved this story more if I'd read it when I was a teenager, because teenage-me would've adored everything about this story. Teenage-me would've found no flaws whatsoever. But adult-me wanted more; more of a focus on the relationship between Daisy and Eleanor as siblings (as they have their problems), and more of a growth in the love interest between Miles and Daisy (since to me, there wasn't a lot of it before the ending). There's also the fact that I felt like this book ended way too abruptly for my taste, and had a few matters - mainly concerning the royal siblings - left unresolved.
But (as I'll always state in reviews like these) those are just my own opinions and feelings towards this book, and something not everyone will agree with. So, putting those aside, I really enjoyed Royals and found it to be a story that both brought and kept a smile to my face, and has a few shocking moments here and there that kept me all the more hooked. The writing was light yet captivating, and the plot itself was unique and kept me consumed until the very end; I'd definitely recommend Royals to those looking for a quick and enjoyable YA royal read.

I loved Daisy. I loved her parents. I loved that the book went in a different direction romantically than I expected when I picked it up. I loved that when an issue came up, it wasn't, like, dwelled upon so that the story took an angsty turn - it stayed light. I loved that I got smacked with a twist that I most definitely did not see coming. And on a superficial note: I love the new cover; I think the new printing is beautiful and I am obsessed.
There were a couple of story points that I wish had been expanded upon; but overall, I had a great time reading this.
Fun, witty, zero angst, and a nice romantic relationship that seemed to blossom naturally.

A royal read that was perfectly balanced with drama and swoon. I need book two now!! I love Miles.
