4.0 out of 5 stars Great stable holder, but a couple fixable flaws
Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2020
First the good... It’s sturdy and very stable. It grips the sink well, it grips the sharpening stones and plates very well, and it grips the tabletop well if you decide to use it on a flat surface instead of over a sink. It keeps the block secure without wiggling, vibrations, or any awkward unsteadiness. It is actually great at doing its job.

I docked a star, because I have two complaints and concerns.
#1) The threaded holes are directly into rubber instead of threaded metal inserts. I expect these will eventually strip and fail. It can be fixed by purchasing and installing metal inserts but that is more work.
#2) I’m worried about long term rust protection. The poles are fine, but the metal screw wing nut hardware has a fair amount of magnetic strength, which indicates lower nickel content & higher chromium, which is more likely to rust than stainless steel with higher nickel content ( more nickel = less or no magnetic strength and higher corrosion resistance).

I think 4 stars is generous, but 3 stars would be a little harsh. Fix these two issues and it’s 5 stars. I’m also taking price into consideration. Sure, this is cheaper than the name brand stuff like Naniwa and Shapton, but it is more expensive than the generic $15~$20 stone holders (those are not sink bridges though). If you take into account that you can actually get those generic stone holders for as low as a few dollars each when purchased from a Chinese site that starts with “Ali”, then this Chinese product is actually expensive in comparison and should not have these flaws. I will probably be upgrading the screw hardware and installing metal threaded inserts myself.

I am happy and would recommend this to friends, but hope they fix these two issues.
