I primarily bought this for watching youtube and reading in bed. For that purpose it is mostly adequate.
The only big problem with it is that the screen, even on minimum brightness, is still much too bright to be comfortable for night use. Particularly if you're trying to get ready to sleep. This was 'fixable' by installing an app that overlays a black filter on the screen but that has weird performance ramifications that makes the tablet function rather sluggishly. Still adequate for my purpose though.
On the other hand if you want a tablet bright enough to be workable in broad daylight, this one seems to fit the bill! I've used it to read in the middle of the day on a bright sunny day at the park and it's great for that.
Other minor issue is when it tells me it needs to update and asks me to schedule it, I tell it to update the following day at noon. When I go to use it the following night it has never updated and starts nagging me to schedule it again. It never does follow the schedule and continues to nag me every night until I remember to manually update it. Quite annoying but very far from a big deal.
If Samsung were to ever update it so the screen's brightness can be turned down another 75% or so darker than its current minimum it'd be a 5/5 tablet. But as is I would warn against getting it if night-time use is your main goal.
