I bought these 1-2 months ago as spare since I'm on my last roll. I've [almost] always used Scotch packing tapes for as long as I can remember; however, something didn't feel right this time when I tried it last week.
My first impression was that the tape seemed thinner than usual (or at least thinner than what I currently have), didn't stick well, and easily torn. At first I thought it's just my imagination because it's 'new' but after a while I started to feel something was really off, especially the adhesive power which I'd become quite familiar with over the years of experience with it. So I decided to conduct a little experiment of my own to determine the adhesive power.
First off, I didn't realize just how short they were. It's partially my fault I guess; however, this is the most common size on all of amazon and the length wasn't written anywhere on my existing tape so I couldn't tell anyway. In any case, its length didn't bother me as much in comparison to the lack of stickiness and the lack of quality.
As you can see from the video, the difference was very noticeable (no wonder I felt 'off' when using it). I did the test 30 times per tape and average them out with the result below (I also removed the top 3 best and worst from each before taking the average);
This new Scotch tape: 31.68 cm
Old/Existing Scotch tape: 22.17 cm
Based on this, this one is about 70% of the stickiness of my current/existing tape. Unfortunately, I couldn't really determine the thickness because they are just too thin to be measured accurately.
Note: this is by no means absolute figures; I did what I can with what I have at home but this at least gave me a numerical perspective rather than just 'thinking about it...'.
I should've listened to the reviews and stayed away from this but I didn't, and now I have 6 rolls of packing tapes that are crazy THIN, NOT sticky enough, easy to tear, and just an overall cheapo. It's sad to see Scotch has become like this as I've been a royal fan for decades. I guess it's time for me to try something else...
