Ooh this one really was dark! Who knew I’d be rooting for the murderer? Zeke and Nora are all kinds of messed up but what an exhilarating story.
꧁ Tamed by Measha Stone ꧂
Ok so this one was pretty messed up. Kidnapping, sexual slavery, and their chosen lifestyle? Not something I’ll ever get. But it was gripping and well written.
꧁ Asphyxiate by Ally Vance ꧂
I keep thinking the next story can’t be as dark as the one before but clearly, I’m wrong every time. A man so addicted to and turned on by saving lives that he ends them so he can bring his victim back? Dark dark dark.
꧁ History X by Ellie Meadows ꧂
Age gap, professor/student, forbidden/taboo relationship? Check, check, and check! Started off seemingly less dark than the others…took a twist at the end!
꧁ Sanctum by Claire C Riley ꧂
Leo started out so promisingly. All he wants is to be loved and have a wife and kids. But of course he doesn’t set about achieving those things in a normal way. Messed.up.
꧁ Exposure by Vicki James ꧂
Although dark, at least Drake had a reason for his actions and wasn’t just a total psychopath! So far, the others have just been certifiable.
꧁ Ash City by Penelope Douglas ꧂
The whole reason I got this anthology in the first place! I love all of Penelope’s writing and this story was no different. Dark but somehow heartwarming.
꧁ Terrene by Yolanda Olson ꧂
Damn this was messed up! Harvey is seeking vengeance on the man he believes to have murdered the love of his life. But there’s a twist, and the whole thing is dark AF.
꧁ Corruption by Andi Jaxon ꧂
Age gap, MM, definitely forbidden, depraved sexual acts. I thought we might see more from Alicia’s threat but that probably needs a longer story.
꧁ Carnal Value by Shane Starrett ꧂
Dark dark dark. Kidnapping, slavery, sex trafficking. And it ends on a sort of cliffhanger! Sadistic author…
꧁ Malefactor by Abigail Davies ꧂
Gabe, a disgustingly horrific crime lord, and the darkest part of the story. But Dane was wonderful and Mya, albeit a bit naive at first, was so strong and resilient. Love the ending.
꧁ Axed by Samantha Towle ꧂
Axel gets out of prison - having served a harsher sentence than deserved - to find his old high school bullies are being murdered one by one. Who is going to be number one suspect? Poor Axel. A mostly happy ending though.
꧁ Fertile Ground by Jennifer Bene ꧂
Oh man, Theo is a dark, psychotic man. Poor Annabelle. She’s so strong but also a little messed up. An interesting ending too.
꧁ Caged by Cole Denton ꧂
Sadly DNF. I found the writing too repetitive and just couldn’t get into it.
꧁ Corrupt Us by JM Walker ꧂
The “plot” of this one was confusing. I honestly didn’t get the job that they went to, it was all a bit bizarre. But honestly the storyline didn’t matter. This was basically MM Dom/sub erotica and the rest was fairly pointless.
꧁ Archer’s Release by Kamisa Cole ꧂
Victor has always had a thing for his step-brother, his tormentor. And as it turns out, Zion has always had a thing for Victor too. That’s why he tormented him, bullied him, because he couldn’t have him. A bit of MM sadomasochism in a nutshell.
Favourite story in the anthology, of course, is Penelope Douglas’ Ash City.
One thing I’ve learned? Some authors’ minds are dark, disturbing, depraved places 🤣
Cole Denton’s contribution to this anthology is packed with delicious forbidden, steamy taboo-ness. The two main characters Kyle & Travis captured my attention from the start with their shared tragic link to each other. Another amazing tale from an author who reels you in with his word wizardry every single time.
This is the story of David and Gabby. David is a “trainer” in the world of human trafficking, and Gabby is the female about to be given over to her buyer, a buyer who wants his pet to be properly trained before he takes possession of her. It’s a rather dark tale, as is to be expected given the subject matter.
The story is a good one, that hooked me from the first page onward. One of the talents of Measha Stone is to create characters one can bond with and care about. She’s also rather adept at weaving interesting story lines. She succeeded here in these endeavors. I won’t give any spoilers but know that you’ll love how the story ends. Highly recommended
Both Scott had this possessive and dominating side that just complimented Corbin's submissive side. Corbin may be submissive when it comes to Scott, but he is the one that initiates the first move. Scott may have fought it and fought it some more, while Corbin just never never backs down.
Five stars Andi, Five stars girl. If you want to write anymore of Scott and Corbin's story after that barn scene, I will gladly volunteer to read it.
