BUYER BEWARE!! The drive failed after about 5 months. It had a 1-year warranty. However Seagate said the warranty didn't apply because the drive was not intended for the North American market (it was only intended for the Asian market). So BUYER BEWARE, because this seller is selling products that are not intended for sale in the North American market...and the manufacturer's warranty will not be honoured!!

I have a server running Blue Iris DVR software (instead of getting a dedicated NVR I chose to use a server which can also perform other tasks) where I needed to increase the storage capacity and didn't want to spend a lot of cash for a NAS drive. Surveillance drives also don't have to operate the way a standard desktop or NAS drive does so this is a nice choice for a dependable drive and at the same time saving money.

It's been in operation four months working 24/7 recording from 6 HD cameras with daily transfers of older recordings. It amounts to several TB's of data within this 4-month period.

Anytime I've physically checked the drive it feels warm instead of hot. To start with I used standard desktop drives and with the constant writing they ran hot to the touch. I appreciate the performance without heating this drive provides as it helps keep the temperature down in the servers case.

For mounting these use standard drive screws. Another reviewer indicated that the screw required was not the same as those used on other drives. They are in fact the same thread found in probably half the drives in use, there are two sizes of standard screws and this simply uses the smaller version but it is nonetheless a standard screw. Like any other drive you can buy, it DOES NOT COME SCREWS, NO DRIVES DO.

An important note, if you intend to use this in a desktop for gaming or general computing you'll be disappointed. This has been specific;y built for video recording and does not have the read/write capabilities needed for high-performance tasks.

Truly impressed with this HDD (SkyHawk AI 12 GB)

I have some rather fast Toshiba X300 drives and they are great for storage and vast majority of (non-AAA heavy) single player games (I have SSDs for AAA games and OS - but SSD storage is at a premium). I was skeptical of buying the 'SkyHawk AI 12 GB' for standard storage/backup and basic gaming (always use first half of the HDD as your gaming partition to maximize transfer speeds), but have been pleasantly surprised at this drives performance (synthetic testing mostly). See attached images for tests. Whats really amazing is the (relatively for HDD) Random Access timing of 7.8ms. This was better than the 9.1ms access timing of my Toshiba X300 6TB (128MB Cache). I bought this on a sale, so amazing value for 12 TB for such high performance. Hopefully durability would be just as impressive.

Bought this 3.5” 5900 rpm 2 TB CMR drive to replace a 3.5” 7900 rpm 2TB SMR drive. Excellent read and write speed even when connected via external USB3 docking station. I copied w/verify 1 TB of movies to it and got 60-100 MB/s. That’s 5 to 8 times faster than the now retired SMR drive. I have another 5400 rpm 2 TB SMR drive that seems to have good write speed. I guess not all SMR drives have disgustingly bad write speeds. This is my amended review attempt because my first one was deemed outside the boundaries.

Used for NAS offsite backup

Being the cheapest 16TB HDD made it an easy choice. Been using 10TB Iron Wolf for two year, needed larger backup HDD.
Backed up 10.5TB of data over 1gbps LAN - which took 28 hours.
Only used once a month for offsite NAS backup.
A lot of small files to write, Skyhawk handled fine. HDD didn't get to warn.
Being a surveillance HDD is just a added feature. It's still a HDD, and good for other uses.
So far, so good. Good value for money.
Will update after one years use.

Purchased this to replace a defective hard drive out of my camera surveillance system DVR. It was easy to replace. Everything fit as it should. I formatted the drive with the DVR and I was back in business in a few minutes. The old drive lasted 3 years. This drive is rated specifically for surveillance use so should last a heck of a lot longer (I hope).

Great hard drive very clear images and very quite, will be ordering another,
will have a total of 8 tb's.
Only drawback was I called amazon customer service to say there was no screws for the hard drive, was told to
return, and another will be sent out with screws, but the second one didn't come with screws, had to run around to
different computer shops for them because the screws for the seagate are a bit smaller. Hoping the next one will have screws.

Easy to swap over. Only thing to watch in the reolink 8 channel recorder was when formatting the drive you need to click a tiny check box at the start of the line. I kept getting an error saying drive not recognised it was when you check the tiny box that looks like a bullet point it of course allows the newly connected drive to format. Then it just works. All settings saved likely on flash on the unit. So no hassle easy upgrade. Now with 5 off, 5Mp cameras recording has increased from 6 to oddly over 14 days of footage.

1 Mbyte = 1024 Kbyte

came in a Anti-static bag well packaged, fitted in to my CCTV due to the old drive failing after nearly ten years of constant use also a Sea-gate, Edit with a update, now dead after 18 months, while it says 3 year warranty i am happy it lasted 18 months for the price, i would have been angry if some event had been lost due to the failing, however it shows weekly cheeking is worth it, seams they not made how they used to be.
