4.0 out of 5 stars A good video doorbell with great customer support!
By jt on August 2, 2020
Included in package:
- 1x 2K video doorbell (wired)
- 1x electronic chime
- User installation guide and sticker
- Angled mounting bracket, installation hardware (screws, anchors, etc), & installation template
- Jumper wire for bypassing mechanical chime
- Release key

Pros:
- No subscription fees to view & download videos!
- Recorded streams are stored locally (in the doorbell).
- Relatively easy to install and setup, and in general, worked out of the box.
- Integrated with Alexa (with factory firmware) without issue
- Video (2K resolution with fish-eye distortion correction) and audio streams are clear
- Human detection helps to filter out unwanted recording caused by shadows/animals/etc.
- Has a 3 second pre-buffer recording prior to event trigger.
- Phone notification with a thumbnail portrait of the visitor/intruder.
- There is ~2 sec delay, but generally considered good when compared to other video doorbells.
- Has activity & ignore zones to allow you to fine-tune event triggers.
- Has IR LED for low light recording.
- An electronic chime with multiple tunes & volume control.
- Customer support is great, and was able to resolve most of my issues (over the course of 4-5 days)
- There is a Eufy web portal that you can use to view your doorbell stream via the internet (sorry not allowed to post url)

Cons:
- Detected availability of new firmware, but unable to upgrade every time.
- New firmware (2.322) broke video streaming to Alexa (FireTV stick).
- Only 1 activity zone and 1 ignore zone available. Needed to tweak the 2 zones and sensitivity setting to minimize false triggers, but can still produce occasional false triggers. Certain shapes like a tire, flower pot, or neighbour’s window can be mistaken as “human” by the doorbell.
- Detected continuous movement when using an LED bulb (for my porch light) when sensitivity is set to All Motion. I have since switched to a CFL bulb, and the problem is gone.
- All video downloaded from the doorbell must be done via the smartphone app.
- Since recorded video is stored in the doorbell, all the footage will be lost if the doorbell is stolen.
- Existing mechanical chime must be bypassed.

Note:
Pretty much all of the wired video doorbells will require a transformer with 16-24VAC & 30VA, and this one is no exception. If you have an older house with a mechanical chime, it is more that likely you will need to replace the transformer.

Review:
I looked at several video doorbell reviews, and finally decided on this one because of its consistency in delivering notifications via motion detection and doorbell press. I wanted one that would reliably alert me within a short amount time, and some doorbells (to my surprise) did not always deliver on this simple criteria. While this doorbell has some short comings (see Cons), in general, it works quite well, even if there are some occasional false triggers. What was a pleasant surprise was their customer service. I had a few issues starting with the new firmware that wouldn’t install. Emailed their customer service, and within a day, they were able to push the update to my doorbell. Then the streaming to Alexa failed. Again the service rep, who was very apologetic and courteous, forwarded the message to their engineering support team, and magically the next day, it started working again. For the next few days, she emailed me back and forth to resolve various motion detection issues, until I was able to fine tune the settings to my liking. This is a company that works hard to keep their customers happy, and I will definitely consider buying more of their products in the future.

Rating: 8 + 1 bonus mark for Customer Support => 9/10 . Since I cannot award half stars, I have rounded it up to 5 stars.

Helpful? If not, please post a comment or question and I will be happy to help if I know the answer. Thanks for reading!

Update 20200823:
Been having some recurring intermittent issue with motion detection identifying objects as humans, so I have adjusted the rating to 7.5 + 1 bonus (for support) = 8.5, which translates to 4 stars (after rounding down from 4.25). Eufy should really consider adding 2, 3 or even 4 ignore zones, as this will help.

After more experimentation, I found that LED (both daylight & soft white) as well as CFL daylight bulbs will trigger recording if Motion Detection is set to all motion. Best to use CFL soft white bulbs if you plan to leave your lights on at night.

After one of my experiments with different light bulbs (where I had triggered continuous recording all night), I found that the sensitivity of the sensor had become very poor, e.g. a person walking to within 7-8 feet of the Eufy doorbell (at level 4 sensitivity) would not trigger an event. Luckily, by turning Motion Detection off then on again, I was able to restore the sensitivity of the sensor to its normal level.

Update 20201029:
Adobe flash is no longer required to access the Eufy portal. Also latest firmware version 2.328 was pushed out on 16 Oct '20.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Smart Doorbell with minor issues
Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2019
I have been using the eufy Video Doorbell for a few weeks now, and I find that it is an excellent product overall for the price. There is definitely room for improvement, so I have provided a list of pros and cons below, but for this price, it is a great bargain. If the missing video clip bug and false person alerts are fixed in a firmware update, I can give this video doorbell 5 stars... until then, it gets a respectable 4 stars from me.

Pros:
- The video quality is good (although, the HDR quality is not great... see cons below).
- The doorbell recognizes people extremely quickly and sends me an alert almost instantaneously.
- Notifications on my iPhone are accompanied by a photo of the person at the door.
- Looks sleek.
- Comes with an angle plate.
- No subscription cost!!
- Inexpensive.
- Really, really fast startup time. I quit the eufy app, then re-open it and the video from the doorbell starts streaming in seconds -- like 1 or 2 seconds. Even the app launches very fast.

Cons:
- Documentation mentions that if the doorbell glows yellow during the setup process, it is receiving sufficient power and I do not need to bypass the existing doorbell chime with the included bypass wires. However, I noticed that after it had been setup and I tried ringing the doorbell, the doorbell feedback chime (the "ding-dong" sound that the video doorbell makes to let you know it is ringing) would cut out immediately after ringing for a fraction of a second. This issue was fixed when I manually bypassed the existing doorbell chime despite the video doorbell receiving power, which tells me that it was receiving power, but not enough.
- The doorbell keeps recognizing a tree in front of my house as a person and sends me false alerts multiple times a day as you can see in the the attached screenshots. I had to create a detection zone and exclude the tree in order to prevent the false alerts.
- HDR images are not very clear... the HDR video looks fine, but the photos it captures and sends to my phone when it detects a person could be better.
- When I answer the doorbell from my phone, the video is sometimes not recorded and saved. The other day I answered the doorbell, and afterwards I went back into my history to try and download the video clip, but it was missing -- no one deleted it... it was just not saved.
- The doorbell is easy to detach from the wall if you have a thin metal rod... no special tools required, so I am afraid it will get stolen some day.
- It needs multiple detection zones. The single detection zone is very prohibitive.
- It needs an "ignore zone" in addition to the detection zone so I can exclude a section where my street is visible.
- It needs a way to indicate which video clips were a result of a person appearing in front of the door vs. ringing the doorbell. I just see a list of video clips without any indication of whether the doorbell was rung or not. Also, it needs to indicate whether I answered the doorbell, or if it was a "missed" ring.

EDIT [2019/09/16]: After having used the doorbell for over 2 months, I have one more complaint. The eufy Security app logs me out if I don't use it for more than a few days, resulting in me missing notifications from the app. I wish there was a way for the app to tell me that it has logged me off so I know I am no longer receiving notifications.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best video doorbell on the market, hands down
Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2019
I'm so relieved Eufy came out with this product; I've been waiting for it and they delivered! I bought the Ring doorbell twice. Twice it failed. Horrible problems with Wifi connection, hard to keep it connected (not my wifi -- I have fiber optic speed and speed tested in the area of the bell - the Ring would setup, connect for a day and then gone, and to reset it, I typically had to pull the whole thing apart). On the second time trying Ring (because there really wasn't anything else comparable on the market at the time), I was so frustrated I returned it and bought a cheap plug in doorbell and gave up entirely on the concept of video doorbell for the past year or so. Then comes Eufy -- I bought their security camera and has been so great, I've been tracking to see when they came out with a doorbell. Setup and install was a BREEZE (it is hardwire, but we had that available to us already from an older doorbell from previous owners, I was able to connect myself). The app is so simple and intuitive. The camera is high quality and works like a charm, as good as their security camera. Most importantly, it holds connection!!!! Love it and highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Well! Recommended and a good bargain too!
Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2019
The doorbell cam works very well and the APP is decent too. + simple Alexa integration (just shows the image on voice command).

The image is quite good, and the field of view is both wide angle and has decent vertical range so you can see up and down as well as side by side. The installation and setup was easy, and I especially appreciate the included "wedge" that you can use to point the camera 15' left or right. I also like the fish-eye distortion correction built into the camera - makes the image quite good.

The "face detection / motion detection" works fine - it doesn't actually read someone's face - but the motion detection seems to be able to distinguish between a flying bug, car driving down the street, and a human walking up - just set the motion area and sensitivity to match your installation.

Some things to know:

It DOES use your existing doorbell wiring BUT it bypasses your existing doorbell. I was disappointed it couldn't keep the existing doorbell in line (some other brands can) . The kit comes with a jump you place across your existing chime terminals to bypass it. Required.

The WiFi seems limited to 2GHz band. I was hoping to use it on my less crowded 5GHz band but no luck.

The built-in night vision IR works well, but in my case, since I have a porch light, I turned it off and the image is just fine at night with the porch light (and in color too!).

Since you can't use your existing doorbell chime, Eufy needs to offer as an accessory additional remote chimes. I -really- need one more for our 2-story home. Hopefully they'll have it available soon.
