Alex Blackwood is a little bit headstrong, with a dash of chaos and a whole lot of flirt. She knows how to get the girl. Keeping her on the other hand…not so much. Molly Parker has everything in her life totally in control, except for her complete awkwardness with just about anyone besides her mom. She knows she’s in love with the impossibly cool Cora Myers. She just…hasn’t actually talked to her yet.
Alex and Molly don’t belong on the same planet, let alone the same college campus. But when Alex, fresh off a bad (but hopefully not permanent) breakup, discovers Molly’s hidden crush as their paths cross the night before classes start, they realize they might have a common interest after all. Because maybe if Alex volunteers to help Molly learn how to get her dream girl to fall for her, she can prove to her ex that she’s not a selfish flirt. That she’s ready for an actual commitment. And while Alex is the last person Molly would ever think she could trust, she can’t deny Alex knows what she’s doing with girls, unlike her.
As the two embark on their five-step plans to get their girls to fall for them, though, they both begin to wonder if maybe they’re the ones falling…for each other.

The novel also deals with real-life issues profoundly well and I found myself blown away at the fresh viewpoint SGTG sets me in.
The writing is addictive and I was flipping pages even before I knew I had reached the end. This book made me smile and it made my heart soar indefinitely.
Before I forget to mention, the character build is a solid 5/5. The emotions are so richly described that I could literally feel the sensations radiating off the page. And the plot. This is one of the best [sapphic] romance plots in history.
I’m so glad I picked up the book and I hope you do, too.
Also, side note: (almost) everyone that matters in this book is part of the LGBTQIA+ community.
I loved the characters in this book. Alex and Molly are wonderfully developed with their own personalities and voices. I loved how unique these two characters were. How they set out for college with two ideas of the people they would become and how they supported each other to become that. I also loved the friendship they developed. Alex's backstory made me cry, she was so grown as a young woman starting college. I also felt for Molly, managing her own anxieties. I saw a lot of growth for both of these young women throughout the story. It was beautiful.
Yes, some of the story was predictable, as all rom-coms really are, but it was sweet and lovely. There were so many parts of this book that just made me laugh out loud, and mostly it was just the banter between Alex and Molly. We really knew they were meant for each other, before either of them realized it.
This was a great book and I look forward to reading future Alyson Derrick books, and more of Rachel Lippencott. Both authors have unique voices in their writing and I loved the story they created. Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for a copy. All opinions are 100% mine.
There are so many freaking cute and humorous parts to the book. Molly is so adorably awkward in literally every social situation, and Alex is the exact opposite. (The words too cool for school come to mind, LOL). One thing I find annoying about many Sapphic romances is that they’ll market themselves as “enemies-to-lovers” but then the main characters will bicker a smidge before tumbling into a relationship within a few chapters. In this book, the build up is a slow burn and Molly and Alex genuinely dislike each other at first. But they both need each other, and as they start to dig beneath the surface, they start to lose sight of the ridiculous schemes that brought them together in the first place.
I cannot emphasize enough how good this book was! I loved the writing style, which was so casual and the tone fit the story perfectly. The chemistry between Molly and Alex was superb, and the book was written by a real-life married couple, which makes it even cuter!
I would give this book more than five stars if I could! I highly recommend it!

This turned out to be a really sweet YA story in which Molly and Alex grow and face up to their demons. Along the way they also become friends…and then their feelings start to change…
There are no major surprises in this; you know exactly where it’s going, but the journey to get there is really well done. The banter between Molly and Alex is sparkling and at times LOL funny - the rugby game had me in stitches! And the angst was just perfect too….not overly long and drawn out but just the right amount.
No sex (just almost sex) and lots that would suit a slightly younger audience - perhaps not 12 year olds, but 16+ certainly…
