Steampunk is a form of fantasy, and as such basic laws of physics and engineering are bent to allow the impossible to happen. Yes, there are a few impossible things in this short story, but here they were well controlled and framed by the alternate reality social structure. When you accept that steampunk is a fantasy then the impossible happening is much more acceptable than otherwise.

The writing earned four stars and I simply could not go higher unless the justifications had been presented in the story. Here is one key factor to remember: Our world's machines and communications would be magic to those in 1893 (The Columbian Exposition), here we look back at something that did not work they way it was shown here, and that was not all that long ago.

Super short but super clear, it is worth the read.

This is a great example of what a short story should be. The author moves quickly through some great actions, and still has time to offer a bit of character development. A couple of very nice twists set this aside from most short stories. Very well written. I saw no grammatical errors. At only 30 pages, it is designed to be read in one sitting. I can’t wait to read the next story. This is an example of a writer that knows the elements of a good short story.

~I definitely enjoyed the writing style. There was some predictability and some surprises. It was nice to read of a strong female main character. Loved the Steampunk setting.
~The actually only down side to this short story is just that…it is a very short story. I feel that in order to get a real story, one must purchase additional books in the series.
