5.0 out of 5 starsGood BD, digital download included, great Amazon service.
Reviewed in Canada on September 22, 2016
Half the fun of this Blu-Ray package is the movie itself, and you don't have to be a Trekker to enjoy that.

The other, equally entertaining feature is the behind-the-scenes clips that show how some things were done during the making of the film.

I was a bit disappointed by the lack of a version with commentary from the Director but that's okay.

They include a URL from which you can legally download a digital copy of the film. That's handy for viewing it from a device like a tablet or other computer that doesn't have an optical drive.

I've taken Amazon.ca up on a few of their offers to provide BD/DVD movies as soon as they are released to disk. I'll use that service again because they do get the products to me within days of the release ...and they don't price gouge, which they so could.

1.0 out of 5 starsThe Digital Code for the Movie is expired!!!!
Reviewed in Canada on July 4, 2019
I loved the movie and recently made this purchase because it also had a digital redemption code with it. Unfortunately the code I received with my current purchase is being shown as invalid when I tried to redeem it. Sure enough inside the box it says " Code may not be valid after 9/10/2015". It would be better if sellers of blu ray movies with digital redemption codes clearly mention that where the codes can be redeemed and by when that way customers won't feel duped. I hope Amazon fixes this. Showing a movie that is supposed to have a digital copy included but is actually expired does not inspire confidence on the part of the customer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Blah movie and definitely not worth buying
Reviewed in Canada on June 28, 2013
Thought Alice Eve's nudity was more than a bit gratuitous and degrading. It added nothing to the storyline and there was no comparable scene with a man (unless you count a scene with Kirk and TWO girls). As a progressive woman I find it a bit tiresome. The sad thing is some guy out there is going to read this paragraph and become motivated to buy the movie because of it.

Secondly, as much as I love Benedict Cumberbatch (and I do love him, especially as Sherlock) his character was extremely one-dimensional. There was a lot of unused potential there and overall I felt like Benedict was wasted on the script.

I did like the special effects and what they did with Kirk. He seemed like a real person and it was fun getting to explore future-Earth with him in the movie. Getting to see him in the bar, walking around the streets, going to work, it all seemed very real and immersive; which is impressive for something futuristic.

Overall I wouldn't buy it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only buy this if you have OCD and need to complete your set

This film is absolutely awful, especially since it's trying to pass itself off as a Star Trek film in name only. Pre-Abrams Star Trek fans will not recognise anything of the show in this beyond the design of the ship and the names of the characters. They've tried to re-do the whole Khan storyline, and it just doesn't work. Especially painful is when Spock does the whole "KHAAAAAAN!" scream from The Wrath of Khan, and in a completely different context to the original, immortal Shatner yell.

2.0 out of 5 stars Paramount, ma che fai?

2.0 out of 5 stars Calidad del 4K decepcionante.

2.0 out of 5 stars Begli effetti, ma la storia non sta in piedi
Reviewed in Italy on April 13, 2014

Is it just me or did anyone else note that Kirk and Spok had been on the belt buster pills?

Ok as sequel after sequel takes root, the actors who play the part will find it harder to maintain theri sevelte figures but come on Pine and Quinto! you are both relatively young, this is the second in the series and your belts are struggling to hold in the evidence of good living.

If that was my only issue the film would have been great but unfortunately it wasn't.

The storyline and its attempts to suspend disblief was, 'so all this super tech and only your eyes spot this glaring piece of evidence? ' 'The can now travel where???' 'To take command of a starship you only need to do wha???'

Without spoiling it too much for those who haven't seen it we see an iconic 'villain' make his appearance. At first, concerning the motivation for his appearance in the Star Trek Univierse, the story is almost convincing but then the attempts to throw in a few twists and turns, and hark back to a particular Star Trek original series movie, blows the suspension of disblief right out of warp drive as a longed for certain race of people, sporting a slightly new look turn up on thier home planet, get the stuffing kicked out of them and then just ...disappear from the script without so much as a cat's meow as a race regarding the indignity they have suffered as the premier warrior race! Kirk and Spock vie for who can be most out of character (just repeating aloud to all that you are in control of your emotions and then throwing a major wobbly courtesy of a dubious mindmeld, every time we need some slug fest action in the script, is not convincing!).

Cumberbatch even with an increasingly difficult to accept sequence of events, was the standout actor who kept me wanting to watch and re-engage suspension of disbelief drive.

Not only do Pine and Quinto need to watch the expanding waist line, Abrams, in terms of storyy needs to watch the expanding story twists and focus on the old adage less is more.

Hope that the next film in the Abrams franchise does what the second did in the original Star Trek film Franchise and First contact did for the Next Generation version. Engage the audience and fully suspend disbelief, at least for the couple of hours we are watching it.
