Really beautifully illustrated book with a deeper meaning, which I really loved, but slow pace, so that it might be a bit boring for some children. I bought this for my 7-year old, who seems to have something lyrical and philosophical. Interestingly though, it was my younger daughter, aged 5, who showed more interest in this, perhaps because she is a more visual person.

This is one of my favorite children's books ever. It arrived today and my 4 year old son has asked me to read it 15 times already. He really loves the illustrations and it's been fun watching him understand the concept of perspective (as the stone means different things for different animals -- a pebble to a giant moose, a hill to a small bug). It also sparked an interesting conversation based on the ending and what it means. The gentle repetition on some of the pages was comforting to my son - and the detailed illustrations really captivated him. I love this book so much and can see it resonating at different levels with children at different ages and adults. It would be great to use in an elementary school to explore the concept of perspective. I want to buy this for all my friends but my husband said "the credit card is full!" :). I highly recommend this and the Life book illustrated by the same person. I try not to buy too many books when I can get them out of the library, but this and the Life book were totally worth it. I never get bored of them.
