It's back! The Story of Christmas, the innovative Advent calendar, story book set, and tree-trimming keepsake.
Wonderfully illustrated and brimming with holiday spirit, the calendar features 24 jewel-like miniature board books nestled in a three-paneled, stand-alone backer. The books are numbered 1 through 24, and, like the peek-a-boo windows on an Advent calendar, are meant to be opened one per day from December 1st through Christmas Eve. Read in sequence, they capture the magic of the first Christmas, from Gabrie'’s visit to Mary (Book 4) to the Three Wise Men gazing at the star (Book 9) to Jesus' birth (Book 24). Each book is one of four different trim sizes and features a gold thread loop so that after it's read, it can be hung on the Christmas tree

Beautiful advent calendar with little story books that tells the whole nativity story! Way better than candy advent calendars. This demonstrates exactly what Christmas and advent is all about. This will definitely be a family tradition in our home for years to come!

I loved the concept- was exactly what I was looking for, in theory. And i really wanted to love it. The books are cute and sturdy, my toddler loved taking the book out each day to read, and looking back at the ones we had previously read. However, the amount of 'artistic licence' taken with the biblical narrative wasn't to my taste at all... There were inaccuracies, additions to the story that weren't biblical etc and i was not pleased with this. As a result, this will likely get limited use again in our household

This was perfect!
The book is large with 24 small books inside.
Each book has a story that is written quite simply but with enough detail for a child.
My LO is 4 and I mostly kept to the original. Sometime I had to change words or elaborate for effect to keep him captivated. If you are looking for a faith based advent calander then I would recommend this.
Quality is good
I see this part of our ongoing Annual Christmas tradition

Our 3.5 year old LOVES her new advent "books", she asks for her Christmas story advent every morning, and we read it together. Super quick, as each story book piece is only about 3 small pages long. AND she gets to put them on the tree after. The book ornaments themselves seem pretty sturdy, but the first couple days our kiddo tried to pull them all out at once, and so a couple of the slots that hold them in the display book/holder have slight tears. But otherwise seems like it should hold up just fine over the next few years!

This is the second "The Story of Christmas Set" i have purchased for my Granddaughter's family. The first was 5 years ago, and my great-granddaughter, who is now 8, loved it from the first book. Because she handled the little books with little hands, she has almost worn the first set out. She now has a little brother - 3 years old, so we are continuing the tradition with a new set of books!
It is a wonderful, theologically correct set of the Christian story of Jesus, that shares with little ones, and not-so-little ones, the wholeness of the Christmas season.

We have been looking for years to find an alternative nativity scene that cannot be played with and broken, but at the same time, not respected so much that the kids fear to even touch it. This set has the added value that the story is included and in such a brief, pretty, and poignant style. It is tricky to ease the mini story books out of their slots the first time (they seemed almost glued into the slots), causing tears. However, these are not so noticeable. This will stay with us hopefully for many seasons to come!

We loved this advent calendar. Our son loves to read, and this was such a perfect way to stay focused on the true meaning of Christmas through advent. Good quality item too. We look forward to many years of use.

My four year old loved this and so did I. A nice alternative to traditional advent calendars with the cheap chocolates. I bought this because my son has allergies and I wanted an advent calendar for him. But it is a wonderful way to remember the true meaning of Christmas.

make sure the Christmas 🎄 is up on the first

Was bought as an alternative to chocolate for my friends children who are religious! Aged 3, 5 and 8.
Some parents don’t like children having a lot of chocolate so I decided to buy this advent calendars for the children to share! What an absolutely brilliant buy!
Every evening the children would take it in turns to get the days book and the family would sit together read the story of the nativity and then hang the little book on the Christmas 🎄 tree!
Also it’s reusable they can use this advent calendar every year! Just need to make sure the Christmas tree is up on the 1st
Definitely worth the money and lovely family gift! Bringing the true meaning of Christmas

Makes Advent more of an Event
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 3, 2013Verified Purchase
The Story of Christmas helped get our children focussed on the story and meaning of Christmas this year. We do usually aim to get them an advent calendar that doesn't just supply chocolate or deliver pictures of snowmen, and this really bolstered that idea - the kids really looked forward to their turn to read out the day's story and hang it on the tree, and the books actually made great tree decorations.
My only gripe (hence four stars rather than five) is that the story in the books was a little bit too creative in filling in the gaps in the gospel story - nothing that was "off message", but I'd have preferred a writing style that was clearer about which bits were made up. However, that's a personal preference - I'd still recommend this readily to anyone trying to keep the meaning of Christmas alive in their family.

No chocolate in an advent calendar for a child. Brilliant!

What a great idea for an advent calendar. Does not have chocolate and tells the story leading up to the birth of Jesus for a young child. My 4 year old looked forward to finding the right number and hearing a short story each evening.
My only criticism would be the books are not laid out in any seemingly logical order.

This is lovely, not used yet but looked at some of the little books and they seem great. Sturdier than expected, will be perfect for my 4 year old.
Edit ( Feb 2020): used for years and still liked and in great condition. It's perfect for advent, my son loves reading the stories everyday and hanging them on the tree. As long as you are careful when taking the books out the cardboard just stay intact, not for rough hands though.

Really lovely set of books. Now part of our Christmas tradition as we read one each night on the lead up to Christmas. Some of the books are a little long winded for the age of my children but I just adapt it/shorten it for her.
