5.0 out of 5 starsIgnore the negative reviews, just read it.
Reviewed in Canada on April 3, 2019
I almost didn't read this book because of some of the negative reviews; however, I am glad I did. I initially thought that this book was going to have the direction of "don't care about ANYTHING at all", but that's not the case. It mostly discusses defining proper values for yourself; what you should and shouldn't care about, and why. It was a short read, but still enjoyable, I may go through it again at some point. A lot of self help books seem to try to get you to look at things more positively, which for me seems to end up in ignoring the problem/negative feelings because I have buried it with a false sense of positivity I don't really believe. One major thing I liked that was discussed in this book versus some of the other "self help" books I read is that it talks about accepting some of your own flaws, some things can't be sugar coated. The approaches mentioned in this book seem better suited to actually dealing with your issues and coming up with new life values centered around your own happiness and well being. Well worth the read if you are looking to give your head a shake.

Sexist book. I read it. The whole thing. I noticed the only time woman were mentioned was in a sexually demeaning way. He even mentions his womans need for his approval when it comes to dressing herself.I didn't find it inspiring or helpful. It terms of packaging it did come on time. However I wouldnt recommend it. Sorry.

If you don't like blunt talk with swearing, this book is not for you. The title is why I bought it. It had me at the F word... I cannot lie.

Some reviews thinks the writer comes across as arrogant or narcissist. I can see why. But... it's really your best friend saying "give your head a shake" and kicking your rear end because you're being foolish. If you can be open to view it as such, then it won't offend you.

I admit I have only read the first chapter but I like where its going. His analogy on being indifferent versus different in the first chapter is true. I look forward to reading the rest.

Get the book, especially if you're younger than 40 and accept the rear end kicking.

Great book. Started it and couldn't put it down! Bought it for one of my Daughters, ended up keeping the book and buying another one for her for Christmas. This book will unfudge....your mind and shake you up. It's clear, precise and honest. At times it makes you giggle. Ok, sometimes a little misogynistic but the book is worth it nevertheless. When he talks about touching a celebrities breasts, I could've done without, for example. But don't get me wrong. I loved this book and I do recommend it. I'd take out a sentence or two, but lighten up. Who gives a fudge! Lol

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book - Simple language and real life examples!

I have always been skeptical about these self-help books because while they do talk about these lofty ideas and provide an assurance that if you follow them nothing will stop you from success, they probably sell more than help. Of course, ultimately, it's up to the readers of how to extract benefits from them. I don't see this one much different.
What I liked about the book is the simplicity of the language with which the author has explained some, maybe not complex but profound, concepts around the way we evaluate our life and the things that should matter to us. I loved the explanation around choosing your struggle, measurement of self-worth, dealing with failures, and building trust.
I also liked the real-life examples (not sure about his personal stories though) that he has picked up to explain it which makes them quite practical.
Making this book truly beneficial will, of course, require much more than just reading. However, it's still a good guide.

Do not judge the book by its cover. This book is very insightful, pleasant to read. It is worth taking notes of several tips the author is giving throughout the read. One of the best books I've read for personal development (good examples are 7 habits of highly effective people, how to win friends and influence people, the alchemist, 12 rules for life, awaken the giant within, and more). I highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars I thought this book was about an author complaining about life - it's the opposite

When I bought this book, I thought it would help me with not caring about the insignificant things in life and to help not compare myself to others. The author gave good advice on what life is about and how to handle it. For example, I learned that the glorification we see on social media - friends getting married or engaged, someone bought a new car, or someone invented an app that will make them millions - is what is really draining our happiness. Everyone in life faces some kind of struggle, despite the fact they appear to be happy. Sure, your friend got married or engaged, but there will definitely be quarrels between couples. A new car is great, but there is the stress of getting it scratched or damage, and the costs like gasoline and insurance.

Another lesson I learned from this book is to not be afraid of what other's think. If someone in your life is providing you negative energy or comments towards you, tell the person how you feel about their words and if they still do not change, then avoid this individual.

Life has many positives and negatives, and we are all responsible for our personal happiness. You are the one who controls your life, almost all of the circumstances up to it and your happiness.

I received this book two days ago! It came super fast! Now into the book review:

I was a little skeptical about this book because of some of the reviews but bought it anyways. I found the beginning of the book a tad slow but still kept my attention. I've learned if you want to grow, learn and really help yourself, this book is great. If your not at that mindset, this book isn't for you.

I am almost done the book and I can say it has already helped the way I am looking at past traumas I've experienced, current issues I have in relationships and my overall mindset has changed. I've been hung up on a trauma that occurred 10 freaking years ago. I didn't learn until I started reading this book that although what happened to me was not my fault at all. The way I coped with it and let it bother me so long was my responsibility. The way I hung onto those feelings of resentment, anger, and sadness was my fault. I didn't get the proper help I needed, when I knew I needed it.

This book will not solve all your problems, it takes you to do it but it can sure help to make you look at yourself and make some well needed improvements on how you deal with things in your life and the way you think about them.

Thank you Mark Manson.

Somehow, makes a lot or sense in helping to put things into a different perspective. To me, it felt like I was identifying myself in many situations and it gave me a different outlook on many aspects of my life. It really makes you think about the choices one makes and how those choices have consequences, good or bad. Well done!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't exhaust yourself in looking for a deeper meaning

Okay so what the book is trying to convey is that there are a limited amount of things we should care and concern ourselves over. Caring about too much will ultimately harm your well-being, and caring about too little will just make you seem ignorant. Pick what's truly important and drop everything else to reduce stress and better your life choices. Don't look for any deeper meanings as there are none LOL.

Mark Manson is the real deal. Knows his stuff thoroughly, has a lot of wisdom and humility, pulls no punches and tells you straight up what is going on. I have learned a ton from this man and got through some tough times that trained therapists had not been able to help me through. I respect him very much and appreciate him equally. I highly recommend this book
