TOP 500 REVIEWER
5.0 out of 5 starsIgnore the negative reviews, just read it.
Reviewed in Canada on April 3, 2019
I almost didn't read this book because of some of the negative reviews; however, I am glad I did. I initially thought that this book was going to have the direction of "don't care about ANYTHING at all", but that's not the case. It mostly discusses defining proper values for yourself; what you should and shouldn't care about, and why. It was a short read, but still enjoyable, I may go through it again at some point. A lot of self help books seem to try to get you to look at things more positively, which for me seems to end up in ignoring the problem/negative feelings because I have buried it with a false sense of positivity I don't really believe. One major thing I liked that was discussed in this book versus some of the other "self help" books I read is that it talks about accepting some of your own flaws, some things can't be sugar coated. The approaches mentioned in this book seem better suited to actually dealing with your issues and coming up with new life values centered around your own happiness and well being. Well worth the read if you are looking to give your head a shake.

1.0 out of 5 starsHowever I wouldnt recommend it. Sorry

Sexist book. I read it. The whole thing. I noticed the only time woman were mentioned was in a sexually demeaning way. He even mentions his womans need for his approval when it comes to dressing herself.I didn't find it inspiring or helpful. It terms of packaging it did come on time. However I wouldnt recommend it. Sorry.

3.0 out of 5 stars The author went a bit too negative for my taste, so I stopped reading it
Reviewed in Canada on February 5, 2022

Like the headline says, I stopped reading the book a third of the way through, as the author had become a bit too negative for my liking.

It was okay to a point, and has some good ideas. I couldn't (or just didn't) want to push past the spell of nonsense. There are too many books that I want to read, and not enough time in my time on earth for me to justify it.

I did, at one point, get the author's email newsletter, which had some good short articles, some longer ones, and others that were behind a pay wall (which is fine, he has to make money from his writing, correct?). I have just moved on from his work. It's not terrible work, I just started getting a headache from the negativity, and haven't revisited his book since then (and it's been a while).

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for the sensitive soul
Reviewed in Canada on April 9, 2019

This book is absolutely not for the sensitive soul who finds it completely unnecessary to use foul language to get a point across. However, if you can get through the language, it has some very positive insights into the problem of a self-centered existence and points to removing the drama from everyday life and finding peace. It is, perhaps surprisingly, not about not caring, but rather about taking responsibility for what you do care about and taking responsibility for your responses to what does happen in your life. A good book that probably would have had more impact if the language had been more amenable to the message.

3.0 out of 5 stars If you’ve heard to much about it, don’t bother buying it

Fun read. Awesome context. This book came so highly recommended by so many people that it didn’t live up to expectations. That’s just my experience, I wish now that I’d read it before I’d ever heard of it. The first portion of the book ends up feeling like the f$&k thing is thrown in arbitrarily, overused. Stick through it though because actual substance is just around the corner. It fades out again, predictably, to the point I didn’t finish the last few pages. I’m sure the experience would’ve been quite different reading it when it first came out or never having heard of it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Millennials might like it
Reviewed in Canada on May 3, 2021

There is some good information in this book but the author seems to think that saying "f" a lot is very important. I found it quite childish for the most part but if he were to write an adult version I think it could be quite good. It would be a good starting book for millennials starting out on a self-help path.

3.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing for those struggling with perfectionism.

This book is liberating if you are struggling with perfectionism. Manson is witty and hilarious. It's a refreshing take on how to acknowledge and accept your shortcomings, not from a place of shame but instead, how to rise from it. One thing I didn't necessarily agree with are his beliefs on affirmations, especially if you are naturally a negative person; affirmations has personally helped me become a more positive person. Doesn't provide much value to people who already have a "DGAF" attitude (obvious, I know, but explains my 3 stars rating).

3.0 out of 5 stars Some good content, but 'okay' at best

I get it, this is 'the bestseller' book right now. It is trendy now to appear in public reading a book with giant F* or Sh* with bold face on the cover! So, don't judge the book by its cover.
There is good content in this book for sure, but it is completely overshadowed by a repeated use of F-bombs as if it was a race for 'most number f-bombs used in a book', or just a lack of vocabulary combined with 'Bro-style' writing. Also, some places, the tone gets definitive and condescending when discussing some of the most subjective things in life.
There are many other intelligently crafted books on this topic which are way less obnoxious compared to this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, nothing profound
Reviewed in Canada on January 7, 2019

Are you a kind of overly-anxious person who worries about everything and feels crushed by the demands of life? If so, this book might appeal to you. It won't offer you anything you haven't already read elsewhere, and the tips it gives are definitely of the "easier-said-than-done" variety, but if you just want an easy and entertaining read and a little perspective, it's not bad. It's entertaining and stays away from too much psycho-babble which is nice. Gives generic but sound advice: everyone measures success differently so figure out what success means to you, take responsibility for your problems and stop blaming others, the grass may appear greener but that's not always the case, etc.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's alright!

This book for me got off to a roaring start and made sense about today's world and people around us. As the book progressed I found ( as others noted) it becomes more about the authors slightly drawn out life experiences, and loses steam to the point I didn't finish in fact.

3.0 out of 5 stars Indifferent

I neither loved or hated this book. I think a lot of people could benefit from the concepts in it but most of the information , to me, is common sense. Don't let the title fool you. The book does not tell you to "not give a f***". You just need to decide what things you should give a f*** about. Some people won't read it because of the title. It is worth the read in my opinion. That is all the book is about, some guys opinion.

Just received today this book with one page looking extra longer and wider than the rest of the pages. It looks like it was skipped in the process. There is even a tore on the page on this newly purchased book. I am disappointed about it.
