With a family of 5, the choices for a bike rack that will carry all of our bikes are very limited - in fact, this is the only one I was able to find. I read excellent reviews for the product and decided it would be worth the expense. The first thing I found out was that this is definitely NOT for children's bikes. The amount of room needed between the crossbars is more than most kids' bikes have. Also, this rack will not accomodate a bike that has full suspension, as the centre spring interferes with the rack. The reviews I found explained how this bike rack would accomodate bikes with a larger than average crossbar, which mine has. However, once I got it home and installed on the car, I found that there was NO way my bike was going to go on the rack, so in order to use this to go on family outings, I actually had to purchase a new bike. Once I got the new bike, I got everything hooked installed, the bikes loaded, I attempted to attach the additional safety strap. It is not even CLOSE to being long enough to do anything. It is too short to even go from bike nearest to the car to the base of the hitch. Useless.
If you have exactly the right kind of bikes, all adult size, and have no interest in using the safety strap, I'm sure this bike rack would be ideal. My experience thus far has been absolute frustration and disappointment.
